“Jaws” by Alistair Little and “The Creature from the Black Lagoon” by Vance Kelly!

Today at noon, Bottleneck Art Gallery will release two new prints.  The one above is the Jaws print by Alistair Little and the second is The Creature from the Black Lagoon by Vance Kelly.  You can click on the art above and below to see bigger versions.  Click over to Bottleneck Art Gallery for details if you’re interested in either (or both)!

Bill Sienkiewicz’s “The Creature from the Black Lagoon”!

Bill Sienkiewicz’s riff on The Creature from the Black Lagoon is one of the best I’ve seen.  Bill makes the creature his own with subtle changes which make the monster more menacing.  Look at those claws on his webbed hands.  Sometimes artists make the creature’s face look a bit funny with the fish lips.  Not Bill. I would love to see a Creature from the Black Lagoon story drawn by Bill Sienkiewicz!

You can see more of Bill Sienkiewicz’s art at his website or on his Twitter.

Kevin Wilson’s “Creature from the Black Lagoon” Alt Movie Poster!

To get the full beauty of Kevin Wilson’s Creature from the Black Lagoon print, you should click over to BottleneckGallery.com and see the larger version.  While you’re then you can even check out Wilson’s variant version.  I prefer the color one above, but your mileage may differ.  If you really dig the Creature from the Black Lagoon print, be advised that they go on sale today and there is a limited number available.

“The Creature from the Black Lagoon” and “Frankenstein” by Juan Ramos!

The Creature from the Black Lagoon is one of two prints by Juan Ramos that sold out on the first day that they were launched!  The other print is an alternate poster for the original Frankenstein. The prints were released by Bottleneck Gallery and it is worth a click over to see both The Creature and Frankenstein in slightly larger versions (plus all the other cool stuff on site).

“Creature from the Black Lagoon” Trivia

One of my favorite horror movies is Creature from the Black Lagoon.  Nicholas Furnal at CBR.com recently posted 10 Things Everyone Missed In Creature From The Black Lagoon.  I’m proud to report that I only missed one, but it is a doozy.  Before you click over, I’ll tell you the one I missed plus two others that are favorties.

Telephone Pole In The Amazon.  I’ve watched Creature from the Black Lagoon dozens and dozens of times (once as recently as last week).  I never noticed the telephone pole.  Of course I am usually watching in the 1.37:1 screen ratio.  Well, now I have an excuse for another viewing.

No Visible Air Bubbles.  I applaud that director Jack Arnold made sure that no air bubbles were present for the Creature’s underwater scenes.  It made the monster all that more realistic.  Hats off to Ricou Browning for being able to hold his breath underwater during several minutes of filming!

Two Separate Creature Suits.  It would have been easier and cheaper to just create one suit, but the folks behind the movie made two (one for land and one for underwater) that varied in flexibility and color.  It’s attention to details like these that make Creature from the Black Lagoon a classic.

“Creature from the Black Lagoon” Trivia!

Christopher Fudiccia and ScreenRant posted 10 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Creature from the Black Lagoon.

The Creature from the Black Lagoon is one of my favorite horror films and perhaps the one that is most deserving of an new movie. Fudiccia presents ten fun and informative facts.  Below are three of my favs and my thoughts on each.  Click over the article for all the facts and the full details.

The Film Was Originally Presented In 3D. (I’ve seen Creature from the Black Lagoon many times, but never in a theater and never in 3D.  There’s money to be made if Universal ever decides to do a 3D re-release! – Craig)

Glenn Strange Almost Played The Creature (I did not know this.  Given the fact that Strange played Frankenstein in several movies, he seems like a natural choice… if he was a better swimmer.  Ha! – Craig)

The Gill-Man Wasn’t Really A Monster (This is an argument I’ve heard from fans.  See the rationale Fudiccia presents.  I’d agree except for the fact that the Creature kills two native workers at the start of the film.  – Craig)

Did You Know John Carpenter Was Set to Direct “Creature from the Black Lagoon” Remake?

At one point a few years ago, John Carpenter was scheduled to direct a remake of The Creature from the Black Lagoon.  In preparation for the film, Rick Baker was brought on board to re-design the Creature based on Milicent Patrick’s original work for the 1954 film.  Although Carpenter’s update was never made, he does have several of the models on display in his home.
