All Time Top Ten Best Film Noir

Recently The Guardian posted their choices for the Top Ten Film Noir.

Their list is a good one and included:

10.  They Live by Night
09.  Kiss Me Deadly
08.  Blood Simple
07.  Lift to the Scaffold
06.  The Third Man
05.  Out of the Past
04.  Double Indemnity
03.  Touch of Evil
02.  Chinatown
01.  The Big Sleep

Yeah, that’s a nice list.  I’ve seen 8 of the 10 [missing out on They Live by Night  and Lift to the Scaffold].

If I were to quibble, I’d move Double Indemnity  to the #1 spot and move something out to bring in The Postman Always Rings Twice  [original version, thank you].

Kings. Queens. Soldiers. Bikers. War.

“Hey Craig, do you think Cymberline will be any good?”

I don’t know.  What’s Cymberline about?

“Kings.   Queens.   Soldiers.   Bikers.   War.”

Ok, you’ve got my interest.  Tell me more.

“It’s an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play Cymberline.”

Huh?  Really?  Ok.  It has a good cast.  Let’s see the trailer.

You still have my attention.  I’m still interested.  My guess is Cymberline will show up on Netflix. I’ll check it out.  Then I can give a more definitive answer.

Mike Torrance and the Demolition Man Cast

Mike Torrance aka The Krayola Kidd is back and he’s brought Sly and the cast of Demolition Man with him!  Mike often surprises me with his commissions.  Sometimes it is an extra character, placing Sly in a role you wouldn’t expect or upgrading a sketch card to include the entire major players.

You can see more of Mike’s art at his Deviant Art siteMike is available for commissions and his prices are very reasonable.  I’m ready to order a new batch… perhaps he’ll have a Black Friday sale.  ; )

Schwarzenegger is Back Thanks to “Sabotage”

Schwarzenegger is back!

I know.  I know.

You’ve heard that before.  But believe me, Arnold is back this time.  Check out this trailer to Sabotage.

Sabotage  looks good, doesn’t it?  That’s one of the reasons I think it’s safe to say, “Arnold is back.”

Another reason is that Sabotage is not a typical Arnold Schwarzenegger movie. Sabotage has an ensemble cast.  Take Arnold out and the movie would still be one fans would want to see since it looks like a good action film.

David Ayer Sabotage.  Ayer was the screenwriter on Training Day, Harsh Times and End of Watch.

Ayer also directs Sabotage .  This isn’t Ayer’s first directing rodeo.  He also helmed Street Kings, Harsh Times and End of Watch.  Ayer creates a gritty sense of realism that most Hollywood action movies miss.

Yeah, we’re in for a great ride with Sabotage.  Arnold will, in Sabotage, keep the promise he made in The Terminator.  He’s back, baby!

Win a “Homefront” Prize Package!

As regular readers know, I am really looking forward to the premiere of Homefront on November 27th!

Homefront stars Jason [“The Expendables” franchise] Statham, James [“Rise of the Planet of the Apes”] Franco, Winona [“Black Swan”] Ryder, Kate [“Superman Returns”] Bosworth, Frank [“The Grey”] Grillo and Clancy [“Highlander”] Brown in a screenplay written by Sylvester Stallone [based on the novel by Chuck Logan] and directed by Gary [“Things to Do in Denver When You’re Dead”] Fleder.

HOMEFRONT is an action movie about a widowed ex-DEA agent who retires to a small town for the sake of his 10-year-old daughter. The only problem is he picked the wrong town.

I was contacted by the folks at Open Road who are promoting Homefront and asked if I would like to put together a contest for a special prize pack including a Homefront poster signed by the cast along with a copy of the book that inspired the film signed by author, Chuck Logan.  Of course I was in.

Here are the details…

  • The screenplay for Homefront was written by Sylvester Stallone based on Chuck Logan’s best selling novel of the same name and stars Jason Statham.  What other property [novel, short story, play, comic, tv show, etc.] would you like to see Sly adapt into a screenplay and who would you have star?
  • To enter the contest, simply post your response at this link:  http://craigzablo.proboards.com/thread/25187/win-homefront-prize-package
  • The contest runs from when this post goes up until 8:00am E.S.T., November 23rd.
  • I will use a random number generator to select the winner.
  • I will post the name of the winner and he/she will have 24 hours to e-mail me their real name and address. I will then forward the information to Open Road who will ship out the prize package.
  • The prize package can be shipped within the United States only, and not to a post office box.
  • I am running the contest, but Open Road is providing the prize package.
  •  Good luck to all!

best,

Craig

Humiston’s Jack Carter Gets a “Thumbs Up”

This is Erin Humiston’s first appearance in my Stallone Sketch Gallery.

I met Erin a couple of years ago at a MegaCon Convention.  I liked Erin’s animation style and thought it would be cool to see his take on a Sly character.

Erin did a sketch of Sly from Paradise Alley.  I actually thought I had shared it earlier, but in checking today see that I didn’t.  I’ll fix that and post it in a week or two.  In the mean time we have Erin’s take on Sly as Jack Carter.

You can see more of Erin’s art at his website and Facebook page.

The 20 Scariest Movies of All Time

Recently The Hollywood Reporter compiled their list of The 20 Scariest Movies of All Time.  I’ve seen 15 of the 20 and agree that they’ve come up with a good list.

My choice for number 1 scariest movie would be The Exorcist.  My favorite of the 20 listed would be Night of the Living Dead, but there are many other excellent scary movies on the list.  Any of you seen all of them?
