One last entry before the <\/span>Hurricane<\/b>…<\/span><\/div>\n

When I was a kid one of my favorite things about going to the movies<\/b> was the Coming Attractions<\/b>. For some reason I just loved [and still love] getting a preview<\/b> of something really neat… and then the feeling of anticipation<\/b> of just how cool<\/b> it’s going to be.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

Tonight as I was putting together my comic<\/b> order, I came across this really cool-looking comic, Gravedigger<\/b>. <\/p>\n

The first thing that caught my eye was the cover by Rick Burchett<\/b>. Rick<\/b>‘s a very talented and under-rated artist whose work has appeared in Batman Adventures<\/b>, Blackhawk<\/b>, and many, many other comics<\/b>. <\/p>\n

Surprisingly, when you mention Rick<\/b>‘s name the first thing that comes to my mind is the character Inigma<\/b> that he created over twenty years ago for a fanzine. I’ve always liked Rick<\/b>‘s art and I absolutely love what he’s doing with Gravedigger<\/b>. The Lee Marvin-looking <\/b> lead character and 60’s style design<\/b> to the promo piece<\/b> had me hooked. <\/p>\n

Then I saw that the comic<\/b> was created and written by Christopher Mills<\/b>. I knew the name but couldn’t immediately place what Chris<\/b> had written. A little web search and I quickly remembered that Chris<\/b> had served as editor of Mickey Spillane’s Mike Danger<\/b> for Techno Comics<\/b>. Chris<\/b> was also the creator and editor<\/b> of the excellent crime fiction<\/b> magazine, Noir<\/b>. I was a fan of both of these series so I decided to dig a little deeper.<\/p>\n

Then I found Chris’ webpage<\/a><\/b>. <\/p>\n

Surprisingly we have a lot in common. Chris<\/b> also lives in Florida<\/b>. He, too, is getting ready for a visit from another hurricane<\/b> [I have to go in to open the shelter in seven hours — oh, what fun!], and he has a passion for old movies<\/b>, crime fiction<\/b> and comics<\/b>. <\/p>\n

I ended up spending a lot of time checking out his site<\/b>. Not only are there cool previews of Gravedigger<\/b>, and other comics that Chris has created<\/b>, but he also has an interesting blog<\/b>. [Any one who not only knows about Larry Cohen<\/b> and Armand Assante<\/b>‘s version of Mickey Spillane’s “I, the Jury”<\/b> but wants it on dvd<\/b> earns a spot on my Blogs to Read<\/b> list!<\/p>\n

As you can probably tell, I’m jazzed about Gravedigger<\/b>. Check it out and if you feel the same way, then be sure and let your local comic shop<\/b> know that you’ll want a copy. You might even want to drop Chris a line<\/b> and let him know that you’re on board. If enough of us write, I’ll bet that Hurricane Jeanne<\/b> won’t seem so bad!<\/p>\n
