\"\"<\/span><\/a>I hope that everyone made it to this side of 2005<\/strong> with a minimum of damage. 2004<\/strong> was a good year<\/strong> and I’m hoping for even better<\/strong> things in 2005<\/strong>. But before we leave ’04<\/strong> completely, I thought I’d give a brief rundown of some of the highlights entertainment-wise<\/strong> [at least for me]…<\/p>\n

Movies<\/strong>: I loved<\/strong> the Dawn of the Dead re-make<\/strong> and The Passion of the Christ<\/strong>. [Kinda strange that they were both about people who rose from the dead.]<\/p>\n

Collateral<\/strong> was very good<\/strong> and Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow<\/strong> and The Chronicles of Riddick<\/strong> were fun rides<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Several of the best movies<\/strong> that I saw in 2004<\/strong> were older movies that I discovered on DVD or cable<\/strong>. The original Metropolis<\/strong> was stunning<\/strong> even 77 years<\/strong> after it was made. And you know I love the whole tough guy – noir genre<\/strong>, so seeing movies like On Dangerous Ground<\/strong>, Brute Force<\/strong> and The Big Heat<\/strong> made my day.<\/p>\n

TV:<\/strong> The Shield, 24, Survivor<\/strong> and West Wing<\/strong> continue to make my “Must See TV”<\/strong> list. And although Alias<\/strong> still hung in there, ER<\/strong> fell from the ranks. Lost <\/strong>soared to the top of the list and I enjoyed Boston Legal<\/strong> when I caught it.<\/p>\n

Novels<\/strong>: The best<\/strong> were Portrait of a Murderer: The Jack the Ripper Case Closed<\/strong> by Patricia Cornwall<\/strong>, Double Play<\/strong> by Robert Parker<\/strong>, Sensei<\/strong> by John Donohue<\/strong>, and Rain Storm<\/strong> by Barry Eischer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Comics<\/strong>: My favorite comic of the year<\/strong> was Grave Digger: The Scavengers<\/strong> by Christopher Mills and Rick Burchett<\/strong>. The writing and art meshed perfectly to create a comic that’s impossible not to enjoy. If we don’t get more Grave Digger<\/strong> stories from Mills and Burchett<\/strong>, then there’s no justice.<\/p>\n

My favorite graphic novel of the year<\/strong> was The Wicked West<\/strong> by Todd Livingston, Robert Tinnell and artist, Neil Vokes<\/strong>. Anyone who is a fan of westerns, horror or simply great graphic novels would love The Wicked West<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

My favorite on-going series<\/strong> were The Walking Dead<\/strong> by Robert Kirkman and Charles Adlard<\/strong> [which just keeps getting better and better] and 100 Bullets<\/strong> by Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Blogs<\/strong>: Mark Evanier’s News from ME<\/strong> is required reading daily. He’s funny, informative and blogs don’t get any better. Jeff Parker’s Mystifying Oracle<\/strong> and Mike Wieringo’s blog<\/strong> don’t appear daily but when they do, they’re worth a read.<\/p>\n

Breakfast<\/strong>: Was a three hour marathon session [and NO, we weren’t eating the whole time] with my ole pal Jim Ivey<\/strong> last week. Jim<\/strong> will soon be 80 <\/strong>and we hadn’t been able to get together in quite a while. Christmas Break<\/strong> seemed like the right time to clear my schedule and make a trip over to see “Jimbo”<\/strong> and I couldn’t have asked for a better time. Jim<\/strong> seemed to enjoy it too<\/strong><\/span><\/a>. ; )<\/p>\n
