{"id":10775,"date":"2014-09-18T16:00:22","date_gmt":"2014-09-18T20:00:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=10775"},"modified":"2025-10-21T16:41:40","modified_gmt":"2025-10-21T20:41:40","slug":"comics-deserving-a-relaunch-nick-fury-agent-of-shield","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=10775","title":{"rendered":"Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD &#8211; Comics That Deserve a Second (Or First) Look!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/2014\/z091814nickfury_steranko.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"773\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD<\/strong> began as a series that ran in the comic <strong>Strange Tales<\/strong> starting with issue #135.\u00a0 Each issue featured a <strong>Nick Fury<\/strong> tale along with a <strong>Dr. Strange<\/strong> adventure.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Fury had transitioned from a soldier in WWII to a government spy working for SHIELD (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division) in the 1960s.\u00a0 Many of the characters that fought alongside Fury in WWII were now spies under his command.\u00a0 Like James Bond, Nick Fury found himself dealing with criminal organizations set to destroy the world.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With issue #151 of <strong>Strange Tales<\/strong>, <strong>Steranko<\/strong> came on as inker over <strong>Jack Kirby&#8217;s<\/strong> pencils.\u00a0 With #154, <strong>Steranko<\/strong> become the penciler, inker and co-plotter of the series.\u00a0 Then with issues #155 &#8211; 161, <strong>Steranko<\/strong> wrote, pencilled and inked the tales.\u00a0 With issues #162 &#8211; 168, <strong>Steranko<\/strong> continued to write and pencil the issues, but was joined by different inkers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD<\/strong>, spun off into it&#8217;s own comic after #168 of <strong>Strange Tales<\/strong>.\u00a0 The series lasted 18 issues, although <strong>Steranko&#8217;s<\/strong> contributions ended with issue #7.\u00a0 <strong>Steranko<\/strong> was given complete control of the series, but he had trouble meeting the monthly art deadlines.\u00a0 <strong>Steranko<\/strong> wrote issues 1 &#8211; 5.\u00a0 He provided the covers for issues 1 &#8211; 7 and the art for issues 1 &#8211; 3 and 5.\u00a0 Those<strong> Steranko<\/strong> issues are classics.\u00a0 Adult (for comics) stories plus art that has stood the test of time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If you&#8217;ve never read <strong>Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD<\/strong>, you should give it a glance.\u00a0 Or perhaps it&#8217;s time for a second look.<\/p>\n<p>Or maybe Marvel should consider reviving <strong>Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Can you imagine how cool a new comic series set in the the <strong>1960\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0starring<strong>\u00a0Nick Fury <\/strong>would be?<strong> \u00a0<\/strong>That\u2019s right, set the series in the <strong>60\u2019s<\/strong>. \u00a0Make <strong>Fury<\/strong> the cigar-smoking, ex-war hero who is now <strong>America\u2019s<\/strong> answer to <strong>James Bond.<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Can you imagine<strong> Fury<\/strong>\u00a0fighting to keep the<strong> USA<\/strong> safe from <strong>Hydra, the Red Skull, Scorpio\u00a0<\/strong>and other menaces out to destroy our way of life. \u00a0No longer a soldier, <strong>Fury<\/strong> is now a secret agent working for <strong>S.H.I.E.L.D. <\/strong>[not yet the head of the top secret organization].<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Think how awesome these stories could be. \u00a0Heck, they&#8217;d be worth the price of admission for new <strong>Steranko<\/strong> covers!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD.
