Tom Cruise<\/b> has been in two battles lately. One, The War of the Worlds<\/a><\/b> with Steven Spielberg<\/b>; the other, The War of the Words<\/b> with Brooke Shields<\/b>.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

Let’s start with the one that most people can get behind, The War of the Worlds<\/b>. This update is a worthy successor to the classic 1953 film<\/a><\/b>. And although I’ve never read the book by HG Wells<\/b><\/a>, what I have read indicates that the film doesn’t veer too far from Wells<\/a>‘ basic ideas<\/a><\/b>.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

War of the Worlds<\/b> is a movie that should be seen in a crowded theater<\/b>. It’s a big, explosive, exciting summer picture<\/b> worthy of the Independance Day Weekend<\/b> slot. Cruise<\/b> does a fine job of being a jerk of a father who finds himself forced to be responsible for the lives of not only himself but also his two children.<\/p>\n

Dakota Fanning<\/b> is, as always, excellent<\/b>. She is one of the finest actors<\/b> working today. Tim Robbins<\/b> shows up in a supporting role<\/b> and pulls it off better than I would have expected since he’s playing against the type of role we usually see him play. And of course, Stephen Spielberg rules<\/b>. Any quibbles I would have with this film would truly be nitpiks and War of the Worlds<\/b> was too much scary fun to do that. If you haven’t seen War of the Worlds<\/b>, you should. And before it comes out on dvd.<\/p>\n

Now for Cruise’<\/b>s recent War of the Words<\/b> with Brooke Shields <\/b>and Matt Lauer<\/b>. Tom<\/b>‘s been acting strange lately. In fact, it’s been the talk all over the internet<\/b> and entertainment news<\/b> shows. I’ve avoided discussing it here, since I figured that Tom<\/b> was just in love<\/b> and attributed his jumping on couches and screaming, to his infatuation to Katie Holmes<\/b> and her apparent conversion to Scientology<\/b>.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

Yet, Tom<\/b>‘s recent behavior has gone beyond what can be excused by the excitement of a new romance. When Cruise<\/b> spoke out against psychiatry <\/b>and the use of medicine<\/b>, well, that’s his opinion <\/b>and he’s entitled to it<\/b> [as wrong as he may be].<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

But when he personally criticized Brooke Shields<\/b> for her use of medication<\/b> while dealing with depression<\/b> and then argued<\/b> with Matt Lauer<\/b> while claiming that he [Cruise<\/b>] knew the “history of psychiatry”<\/b> when he so clearly doesn’t have a clue… to me crosses the line.<\/p>\n

I wonder what’s up with Mr. Cruise<\/b>. He used to be such a respectful, polite guy<\/b>. Something has gotten a burr under his sadle.. .<\/p>\n

Or maybe he just needs to take a “chill pill.”<\/b><\/p>\n

“War” of the Worlds <\/b>rates a B+
