I try to keep the focus of my ZONE<\/b> posts on fun stuff<\/b>; things that I find interesting and hope that you do too.<\/span><\/p>\n

This entry isn’t about the comic convention<\/b> that I went to last weekend, the great book<\/b> that I’m reading, or even the tv shows<\/b> that I’ve enjoyed this summer<\/p>\n

Nope.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

This entry is about the horrific wake<\/b> left by Hurricane Katrina<\/b>. <\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

Daytona<\/b> was hit by three hurricanes<\/b> last year. Three!<\/b> And I’d go through six more<\/b>, to avoid one like Katrina<\/b>.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

The worst part<\/b> was not when the storms<\/b> were hitting. By far the worst<\/b> was when the storms had passed<\/b> and we were left to deal with the aftermath<\/b>. Flooded streets. No power for days<\/b>. Which meant no air conditioning<\/b>, no refrigeration<\/b>, no hot water<\/b> or warm meals<\/b>. And then there was the damage<\/b>. People left homeless<\/b>. Businesses wiped out<\/b>. People injured<\/b> or killed<\/b> as a direct result of the hurricane<\/b>.<\/p>\n

We experienced all of that. But on a scale no where near the one facing the survivors of Katrina<\/b>.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

Don’t worry, I’ll be back with a more upbeat topic<\/b> tomorrow. Maybe I’ll post up pics<\/b> and a con report<\/b>, or tell you about The Killings of Stanley Ketchel<\/b><\/u>, or even the tv shows<\/b> this summer that have kept me entertained. But until then…<\/p>\n
