Bob McLeod, John Beatty <\/b>and I drove up. Pat Broderick<\/b> decided to fly in rather than face the madness of an 8 hour ride<\/b> with Beatty<\/b> and I.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

The first day of the show and the artists set up. Beatty, Broderick<\/b> and McLeod<\/b> are all in a row. I’m hanging out with them when not visiting with Paul Gulacy<\/b>. Anyway…<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

Up walks a fan <\/b>and stops in front of Bob<\/b>. [All artists have name cards on the tables.] The fan<\/b> proceedes to tell Bob<\/b> what a huge fan<\/b> he is of Bob’s work<\/b>. The fan<\/b> inquires about the price of a sketch. Bob<\/b> tells him the amount. The fan<\/b> says that he wants several figures<\/b>… all of the Micronauts<\/b>. Bob<\/b> calculates the cost and tells him. The fan<\/b> says, “No problem.”<\/p>\n

The fan <\/b>asks Bob<\/b> if he can ink it. Bob<\/b> says, “Of course, but the cost would be more.” Bob<\/b> tells him how much. The fan<\/b> says, “I love your work. No problem.” <\/p>\n

The fan<\/b> then asks if Bob <\/b>could color it. Bob<\/b> says, “Of course, but the cost would be more.” Bob<\/b> tells him how much. The fan<\/b> says, “I love your work. No problem.” They agree on the final price. Bob<\/b> tells the fan <\/b>to check back at the end of the day and the fan<\/b> goes off.<\/p>\n

Bob<\/b> is really happy to meet such a huge fan <\/b>of his work. He says that he’s surprised that the fan<\/b> wanted the Micronauts<\/b> since he could have gone to Pat<\/b> and gotten him to do it. [Pat<\/b> was a fan fav<\/b> for the Micronauts<\/b> at the time.] Of course Beatty and I start teasing Pat and even Bob joins in [a little].<\/b><\/p>\n

Bob<\/b> starts on the Micronauts<\/b> piece. Other fans come around, but Bob<\/b> is being careful about taking on more sketches since he has so many figures to pencil, ink and color. As everyone probably knows, Bob<\/b> gives fans a lot for their money and when he colors a piece — man, is it sweet.<\/p>\n

So Bob’s working away<\/b>… we’re still teasing Pat<\/b>… more fans are being told that Bob’s sketch list is full<\/b>… the fan<\/b> comes by periodically to check on the progress… it is looking soooo nice.<\/p>\n

Late in the day the fan <\/b>comes by and stands directly in front of Bob<\/b>. Bob<\/b> looks up and smiles. The fan doesn’t…<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

“Sir,” he says, “There has been a terrible mistake<\/b>…” The fan<\/b> goes on to say that he thought Bob<\/b> was Pat Broderick<\/b>. He’s sorry, but he won’t be wanting the sketch. The fan<\/b> then moves down to Pat Broderick<\/b>. He proceedes to tell Pat<\/b> what a huge fan he is…<\/p>\n

Of course Beatty, and I start teasing Bob… and Pat even joins in [a little]<\/b>.<\/span><\/div>\n
