Maybe it’s because he’s grounded in reality. Well, as much reality as you can get in the super hero <\/b>genre. Batman<\/b> doesn’t have super powers<\/b>. Anyone with the same determination, will power and, ahem, bank account could become Batman<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Another reason that I like Batman<\/b> so much is that there are so many takes on the character that work. Think about it…<\/p>\n

Adam West<\/b>‘s tv Batman<\/b> was camp.<\/p>\n

Denny O’Neil<\/b> and Neal Adams<\/b>‘ Batman<\/b> was the world’s greatest detective<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Steve Englehart <\/b>and Marshall Rogers<\/b> [along with Terry Austin<\/b>] explored the struggle for balance between Bruce Wayne <\/b>and Batman<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Frank Miller<\/b> brought us the Dark Knight<\/b> as Dirty Harry<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Doug Moench<\/b>, Kelly Jones<\/b> and John Beatty<\/b> looked at the horror\/supernatural<\/b> aspect of Batman<\/b>‘s universe.<\/p>\n

I could go on and on but the point that I want to make is that each of these takes is different<\/u>, but they all work<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Currently Matt Wagner<\/b> is doing a riff on Batman<\/a><\/span><\/b> in a six issue mini series<\/b> called Batman and the Monster Men<\/b>. It’s a story of Batman<\/b>‘s first encounter with super villians.<\/p>\n
