\"\"<\/a>Here’s part one of my <\/span>MegaCon<\/b> report…<\/span> <\/p>\n

I arrived at the show early… early enough to be #2<\/b> in line. My good buddy, John Higashi<\/b> had already claimed the #1 <\/b>spot. We spent the time until the show opened looking at art<\/b>, talking to other collectors<\/b> as they arrived, playing “war”<\/b> [at one point I had Higashi<\/b> down to just two cards and he came back to take the lead… finally I begged for mercy and a stop to the madness]. <\/p>\n

When the show opened Higashi<\/b> and I made a bee-line to Adam Hughes<\/b>‘s table. Allison<\/b> was trying to bring order to chaos. There was something like 22 dealers <\/b>already in line before the doors opened. Higashi<\/b> and I made the list as #1 <\/b>and #2<\/b> for the “fan list.” We visited with Allison<\/b> for a bit and then Higashi<\/b> was off and I was in his wake… but before I scooted, I was able to set up a commission with Phil Noto<\/b>!<\/p>\n

Our next stop was Josh Middleton<\/b>‘s table. Josh<\/b> does great work, but it just wasn’t in the budget this time. Someday… I hope!<\/p>\n

I then headed over to John Beatty<\/b> and Alberto Ruiz<\/b>‘s table. We were laughing and cutting up when James Howell<\/b> walked by. I asked James<\/b> if he wanted to take a walk around artist’s alley<\/b>. He said, “Sure.” <\/p>\n

So here we <\/b>are strolling through artist’s alley<\/b>. Talking to artists<\/b>, checking out the folks in costumes<\/b>, greeting other collector’s<\/b> and just having a fun morning. <\/p>\n

All of a sudden a guy steps in front of James<\/b> and swings up his camera. James<\/b> brings up his arms in a “What the heck are you doing gesture.” The guy lowers his camera and points at James<\/b>. The guy then brings his camera up for a picture. <\/p>\n

I’m looking at both of them wondering what the deal is when James<\/b> suddenly yells, “I’m not in a @$%*%! costume.”<\/b> Then it dawns on me. The guy thinks that James<\/span><\/a><\/b> has come to the show dressed as Kevin Matchstick<\/span><\/a> <\/b>from Mage<\/b>. <\/p>\n

I bust out laughing which makes James<\/b> turn a darker shade of red. James<\/b> looks at me and says something to the effect of “He thought I was in a costume.” <\/b>I’m fighting back the tears as I point to him and answer, “You are!”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
