\"\"<\/a>Dan Curtis<\/strong>, best known as the creative force behind <\/span>“Dark Shadows”<\/strong><\/em> died today at the age of <\/span>78<\/strong>. <\/span>Curtis<\/strong>‘s career as a <\/span>producer, writer, and director <\/strong>spanned <\/span>five decades<\/strong>. Many would say that the high point of his career was in <\/span>1983<\/strong> when he <\/span>produced, directed and co-wrote<\/strong> the highly successful <\/span>“Winds of War”<\/em><\/strong> mini-series starring <\/span>Robert Mitchum<\/strong>. But I would argue that his work on <\/span>“Dark Shadows” <\/strong>is what most folks will remember.<\/p>\n

<\/span>Curtis<\/strong> created a <\/span>cult classic <\/strong>that was <\/span>“must see tv” <\/strong>for the <\/span>five years <\/strong>that it ran. Ok, ok, truth be told, it wasn’t until the <\/span>second year <\/strong>and the addition of <\/span>Jonathon Frid <\/strong>as <\/span>Barnabus Collins <\/strong>that the series really took off; but boy did it! <\/span>“Dark Shadows” <\/strong>spawned <\/span>two feature films <\/strong>[not as good as the <\/span>tv series<\/strong>], <\/span>comic books, novels, trading cards<\/strong>, and more. Even now, as I think back at how all of my friends and I were “into” <\/span>“Dark Shadows”<\/em><\/strong> I have to smile. <\/span><\/p>\n

Curtis’s wife <\/strong>of <\/span>54 years <\/strong>died earlier this month. He is survived by his <\/span>two daughters <\/strong>and a world of fans. Our thoughts and prayers are with them today.<\/span><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
