\"\"<\/a>I discovered <\/span>Charlie Huston<\/strong>‘s work a month ago when I read his first novel, <\/span>Caught Stealing<\/strong>. Last night I finished <\/span>Huston<\/strong>‘s second novel, <\/span>Six Bad Things<\/strong>. Both books are among the best that I’ve read in the last year and both tell the tale of <\/span>Hank Thompson<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ten years ago <\/span>Hank<\/strong> was a hot prospect to play some college baseball. A broken leg and some bad choices killed any shot of college ball and so <\/span>Hank<\/strong> drifted up to <\/span>New York<\/strong> where he found work as a bartender. <\/span><\/p>\n

Things were going smoothly untl one night when two guys pulled him over the bar and beat him nearly to death. The next thing <\/span>Hank<\/strong> knew he was on the run from the <\/span>Russian mob<\/strong>, two Black cowboys, and a dirty cop. If <\/span>Hank<\/strong> can figure out what’s going on, he just might get out of this alive and with some of the <\/span>$4.5 million<\/strong> that everyone thinks that he has!<\/span><\/p>\n

On the strength of <\/span>Caught Stealing<\/strong>, <\/span>Charlie Huston <\/strong>jumped onto my <\/span>“Author’s to Watch for List.” <\/em>Seeing that <\/span>Six Bad Things<\/strong> was just as good, he’s now on my <\/span>“Buy It Now List.” <\/em><\/p>\n

I’m putting in my pre-order for the final book in the <\/span>Hank Thompson <\/strong>trilogy, <\/span>A Dangerous Man<\/strong>, and also ordering <\/span>Already Dead<\/strong>, <\/span>Huston<\/strong>‘s novel about a detective who happens to be a vampire!<\/span><\/p>\n

That means that I’ll have all of his novels. He’s just going to have to start writing faster.<\/span><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
