As I reported here<\/span><\/a>, Mel Gibson<\/span> was arrested for DUI<\/span> on Friday<\/span>. On Saturday, Gibson<\/span> issued an apology and described his behavior by stating: <\/span><\/p>\n

“I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested, and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable. I am deeply ashamed of everything I said.”<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>When the original story broke, we weren’t told what Gibson <\/span>had said. Today TMZ.com<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span>posted that Gibson<\/span>‘s remarks included profanity-filled tirades<\/span> against the police officer<\/span> that pulled him over, as well as repeated <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>anti-Semitic remarks<\/span>. In addition TMZ.com<\/span><\/a> <\/span>posted what they claim to be are copies of the actual police report.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately this is not the first time <\/span>Gibson<\/span> has faced accusations of <\/span>anti-Semitism<\/span>. In an interview before the release of <\/span>“The Passion of Christ,”<\/span> <\/span>Gibson<\/span> told <\/span><\/span>ABC<\/span>‘s <\/span>Diane Sawyer<\/span>, “To be <\/span>anti-Semitic<\/span> is a sin. It’s been condemned by one <\/span>Papal Council<\/span> after another. To be <\/span>anti-Semitic<\/span> is to be un-<\/span>Christian<\/span>, and I’m not.” <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>Abraham H. Foxman<\/span>, <\/span>national director of the Anti-Defamation League<\/span>, called <\/span>Gibson<\/span>‘s apology “unremorseful and insufficient.” <\/span>It remains to be seen how Hollywood<\/span> and the rest of the nation will view Gibson<\/span>‘s drunken remarks.<\/p>\n

As for me, I do believe Mel Gibson<\/span> is sorry for the inappropriate comments that he made. I just hope that he’s sorry not only because he made them, but also because they don’t represent his true feelings.<\/p>\n
