CBS Paramount<\/span> <\/span>has announced<\/span> that all <\/span>79 <\/span>episodes of the <\/span>original<\/span> <\/span>Star Trek<\/i> <\/span>series are being <\/span>digitally remastered<\/span> and an updated a <\/span>CGI makeover<\/span> before heading into syndication next month. Everything from <\/span>Kirk<\/span>‘s “where no man has gone before” opening to the <\/span>Enterprise<\/span> and every “spaceship that passes by” will be recreated using modern computer graphics<\/span>. But that’s not all that’s being tweaked…”<\/span>battle sequences, ship exteriors, galaxy shots<\/span> and<\/span> landscapes<\/span> (which previously came courtesy of matte paintings) will be given more shading, depth and <\/span>computer-generated<\/span> authenticity.”<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I always have <\/span>mixed feelings<\/span> about projects like this. On one hand, I like the idea that more [make that younger] people may check out and enjoy the <\/span>original<\/span> Star Trek<\/span> <\/span>series. On the other hand, it does bother me that they won’t be seeing the series as it originally aired. I guess the bottom line is that <\/span>CBS Paramount <\/span>owns the rights and <\/span>can do whatever they want<\/span> with the property.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I just hope that the <\/span>original series<\/span> is <\/span>always available <\/span>with the <\/span>original sound and graphics<\/span>. And that way I [and everyone] <\/span>can choose<\/span> between the versions that they like best.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
