William Friedkin): \u00a0While it&#8217;s hard to argue with the popularity of The Exorcist as the greatest horror movie of all time &#8211; it is arguably the scariest &#8211; I&#8217;d put <strong>Romero&#8217;s<\/strong> <em>Night of the Living Dead<\/em> in the number one spot.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em><strong>2. &#8220;The Shining&#8221;<\/strong><\/em> (1980; d. Stanley Kubrick): I like Kubrick&#8217;s take on Stephen King&#8217;s novel [even if King doesn&#8217;t] but it wouldn&#8217;t make my top ten.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em><strong>3. &#8220;The Texas Chain Saw Massacre&#8221;<\/strong><\/em> (1974; d. Tobe Hooper): Texas Chainsaw Massacre wouldn&#8217;t make my top ten&#8230; or top 50.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em><strong>4. &#8220;Rosemary&#8217;s Baby&#8221; <\/strong><\/em>(1968; d. Roman Polanski): I&#8217;d like to see this one again. \u00a0I liked it when I saw it, but the last time was years ago. \u00a0I wonder if it would hold up. \u00a0The fact that it placed so high on the list indicates it would.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>5. &#8220;Alien&#8221;<\/strong><\/em> (1979; d. Ridley Scott): I prefer Aliens.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em><strong>6. &#8220;The Thing&#8221;<\/strong><\/em> (1982; d. John Carpenter): Yeah, I love that people are coming around to love this film. \u00a0It was ahead of its time.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<div id=\"show-follow-overlay\" class=\"article-body-copy\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em><strong>7. &#8220;Halloween&#8221; <\/strong><\/em>(1978; d. John Carpenter): Love the love that John Carpenter received on this list!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em><strong>8. &#8220;Psycho&#8221;<\/strong><\/em> (1960; d. Alfred Hitchcock): A classic!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em><strong>9. &#8220;Night of the Living Dead&#8221;<\/strong><\/em> (1968; d. George A. Romero): You know I love this movie!<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>10. &#8220;Jaws&#8221;<\/strong><\/em> (1975; d.
