I was able to breeze right in. <strong>John Higashi<\/strong> was already there and we met at <strong>Jason Palmer\u2019s table<\/strong>. Then it was over to <strong>Matt Wagner<\/strong>. <strong>Matt<\/strong> said that he had finished my <strong>Jack Carter sketch<\/strong>, but wasn\u2019t happy with it and wanted to re-do it. I told him that I didn\u2019t want him to have to do double work, but he said it was no problem.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>John<\/strong> and I decided to walk <strong>artists\u2019 alley<\/strong>. We visited with <strong>Andrew Robinson<\/strong>, <strong>Mike Perkins<\/strong> [I set up a <strong>Judge Dredd Stallone<\/strong> sketch], <strong>Gene Ha<\/strong>, <strong>Whilce Portacio<\/strong>, <strong>Billy Tucci<\/strong>, <strong>Andy Smith<\/strong>, and others.<\/p>\n<p>I swung by <strong>Miguel\u2019s booth<\/strong> where I met up with some <strong>Stallone fans<\/strong> that were familiar with my site. <strong>Miguel<\/strong> and I talked about the <strong>Rocky Balboa card sets<\/strong> that he\u2019s putting together. <strong>Stallone \/ Rocky<\/strong> fans are going to love them.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/z020607wagner.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\">I saw that <strong>Matt Wagner<\/strong> was getting ready to have <strong>Q &amp; A session<\/strong> and headed over. The <strong>45 minutes<\/strong> flew by as <strong>Matt <\/strong>talked about his career in comics. It was interesting to learn that <strong>Matt<\/strong> postponed doing <strong>Mage<\/strong> when he learned that <strong>DC<\/strong> was doing a take on <strong>King Arthur<\/strong> with <strong>Camelot 3000<\/strong>. Then after seeing what they had done, <strong>Matt <\/strong>decided that <strong>Mage<\/strong> would still be a new spin on the legend\u2026 and the rest is history. It\u2019s hard to believe that <strong>Matt<\/strong> has been in comics for <strong>25 years<\/strong>. It\u2019s cool to see how his style has changed and he has matured as an artist. It\u2019ll be interesting to see where <strong>the next 25 years<\/strong> takes him.<br \/>\n<\/span><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/z020507perkins.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\">After the <strong>Matt Wagner<\/strong> panel, I swung by <strong>Steve Niles&#8217; table<\/strong> to get a couple of books autographed. <strong>Steve<\/strong> said that the <strong>\u201c30 Days of Night\u201d movie<\/strong> is going to make a lot of fans happy. Of course, I can\u2019t wait to see it! Then I made my way to<strong> Mike Higgins&#8217; table<\/strong> to pick up my <strong>Stallone Judge Dredd<\/strong> sketch.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Joe Pekar<\/strong> and I shot the breeze over a couple of <strong>Cokes<\/strong>. Joe\u2019s a guy to keep an eye on! I hope to get a <strong>Stallone<\/strong> piece from him at some point.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/z020607tucci.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><strong>Higashi<\/strong> and I met up again. We stopped by to talk to <strong>Andy Smith<\/strong>, <strong>Gene Ha<\/strong>, <strong>Bill Tucci<\/strong> and others. Although <strong>Bill <\/strong>is best known for his creation <strong>Shi<\/strong> and drawing the female form, he showed us a cool <strong>Sgt. Rock<\/strong> piece that he created for a proposed series. We stopped in for a visit for <strong>Dave Johnson<\/strong> and then back over to <strong>Matt Wagner\u2019s table<\/strong>. <strong>Matt <\/strong>had started the second attempt on the <strong>Jack Carter sketch<\/strong>, but wasn\u2019t happy with it and decided to take a third stab at it. <strong>Higashi<\/strong> agreed to pick up the piece for me since I wasn\u2019t coming back on <strong>Sunday<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/z020507mig.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\">Then it was over to <strong>Miguel\u2019s booth<\/strong> again to touch base. The <strong>&#8220;Rocky Balboa&#8221; card set<\/strong> will be out in <strong>March<\/strong> featuring <strong>72 cards<\/strong> from the movie. Originally, the card set was going to cover all of the <strong>Rocky movies<\/strong>, but after seeing how well received <strong>\u201cRocky Balboa\u201d<\/strong> was, <strong>Miguel<\/strong> worked out a deal for <strong>two separate card sets<\/strong>. The second set, out later this year <strong>will cover all five Rocky movies<\/strong>. Each will be <strong>sold as complete sets in custom binders<\/strong>. I\u2019ve seen mock-ups of some of the cards and the binders. <strong>Stallone \/ Rocky fans<\/strong> are going to love them! I\u2019ll premiere the items and post updates on the <strong>SZ<\/strong> as they become available.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><strong>FX 2007<\/strong> was a worthy show. It had something for everyone. If they can get back artists like <strong>Dave Johnson<\/strong> and <strong>Matt Wagner<\/strong>, I\u2019ll return next year. And who knows, maybe by then they&#8217;ll have the opening day kinks worked out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FX, Day 2, got off to a much better start.
