Twilight Zone: “And When the Sky was Opened” <\/strong>[Season 1, Episode 11] Director: Douglas Heyes<\/strong><\/p>\n Writer: Rod Serling <\/strong>based on a short story by Richard Matheson<\/strong><\/p>\n Starring: Rod Taylor<\/strong> and Jim Hutton<\/strong><\/p>\n The Overview: Beware of Spoilers\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n Astronauts Lieutenant Colonel Forbes<\/strong> [Taylor], Major Gart <\/strong>[Hutton] and Colonel Harrington<\/strong> are piloting an experimental rocket ship’s initial flight. Upon reentry the ship crashes in the desert. Gart<\/strong> suffers a broken leg and is hospitalized. Forbes<\/strong> and Harrington<\/strong> visit Gart<\/strong> and share the newspaper with a headline declaring the three<\/strong> of them as heroes.<\/p>\n After the visit Forbes<\/strong> and Harrington<\/strong> go to a bar to celebrate. Harrington<\/strong> suddenly begins to fill ill and decides to call his parents. His parent answers and tells a shocked Harrington<\/strong> that they have no son! Harrington<\/strong> instantly disappears and the newspaper headline changes to two<\/strong> astronauts as heroes.<\/p>\n Forbes<\/strong> didn’t see Harrington<\/strong> disappear and begins to look for him. Everyone in the bar says that Forbes<\/strong> came in alone. Forbes<\/strong> remembers the newspaper headline and gets it to show the bar patrons.<\/p>\n Shocked to see the headline has changed, Forbes<\/strong> rushes back to the hospital and to tell Gart<\/strong> what has happened. Gart<\/strong> shocks Forbes<\/strong> by saying there were only two of them on the flight. Forbes<\/strong> suddenly begins to feel ill…<\/p>\n Final Thoughts:<\/strong> Rod Taylor<\/strong> sells the episode.
