There were several very good fights including  <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Manny <\/span><\/span>Gamburyan<span style=\"font-weight: bold;font-family:arial;\" > Vs. Nathan <\/span>Diaz<span style=\"font-family:arial;\"> for the &#8220;title&#8221; and <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Jens <\/span><\/span>Pulver<span style=\"font-weight: bold;font-family:arial;\" > <\/span><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">fighting<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold;font-family:arial;\" > <\/span>BJ<span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"> Penn<\/span> to settle an old score.  Before we look at those fights, let&#8217;s check out the <\/span>under card<span style=\"font-family:arial;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Cole Miller<\/span> easily beat<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"> Andy Wang<\/span> by a <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">TKO<\/span> at <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">1:10<\/span> of the<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"> first round<\/span>.  <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Miller<\/span> is one of those guys that doesn&#8217;t look tough, but is.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;font-family:arial;\" >Joe <\/span>Lauzon<span style=\"font-family:arial;\"> is another kid who doesn&#8217;t look tough, but he proved otherwise when he beat <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Brandon Melendez<\/span> with a rear naked choke at <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">2:09 <\/span>of the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">second round<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">Although <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Doug Evans<\/span> seemed to easily win the first round, <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Roger Huerta<\/span> won by a <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">TKO<\/span> in the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">second<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">In the<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"> most controversial fight <\/span>of the night, <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Gray Maynard<\/span> and <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Rob Emerson&#8217;s bout <\/span>was labeled a <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">&#8220;No Contest&#8221;.<\/span>  <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Maynard<\/span> dominated the first round and looked to end things in the second when he picked <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Emerson<\/span> up and slammed him to the mat.  <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Emerson<\/span> was already in pain and the slam was sure to end it.  When they hit the mat, <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Emerson tapped<\/span> and the fight was over&#8230; except for the decision&#8230; which was ruled a no contest.  Here&#8217;s why: when <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Maynard<\/span> drove <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Emerson<\/span> to the mat, he also <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">slammed his own head<\/span> into it and <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">knocked himself out<\/span>!  The decision was that since neither man was able to continue, the fight was ruled a <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">&#8220;No Contest&#8221;.<\/span>   <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">In a post fight interview <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Maynard<\/span> tried to argue that he wasn&#8217;t out, but <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">simply tired<\/span>.  This was patently <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">NOT THE CASE<\/span>.  <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Maynard<\/span> was <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">knocked senseless by his own slam<\/span> and to argue otherwise [especially as the video of him with his eyes rolled back and then waking up and trying to raise up but instead falling over] was<span style=\"font-family:arial;\"> <\/span>ridiculous.  I do think that an argument could be made that since <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Emerson<\/span> tapped before it was clear that Maynard was out, he should have won.  <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Maynard was dominating<\/span> and had he not knocked himself out would have won.<\/span><\/p>\n<div  style=\"text-align: justify;font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Manny Gamburyan Vs. Nathan Diaz<\/span> was somewhat anti-climatic.  <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Gamburyan<\/span> won the first round despite repeated efforts by <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Diaz<\/span> to gain a submission.  The second round <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">ended abruptly<\/span> when <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Gamburyan<\/span> shot in for a takedown and dislocated his own shoulder!  [At least he didn&#8217;t knock himself out.] <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"> Diaz<\/span> was awarded the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">&#8220;title&#8221;<\/span> of the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Ultimate Fighter<\/span> for season five and a <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">six figure contract<\/span> with the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">UFC<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The final fight of the night was <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Penn vs Pulver<\/span>.  <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Penn<\/span> had<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"> won in their previous meeting<\/span> five years ago.  There had been <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">bad blood<\/span> between them since.  That all ended when <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">BJ Penn<\/span> submitted <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Pulver<\/span> with a rear naked choke at <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">3:12<\/span> of the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">second round<\/span>.  Both <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Penn <\/span>and <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Pulver<\/span> congratulated each other on a tough fight and even agreed to work together in the future.  I was glad to see that <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">their feud had ended<\/span>.  I like both of these guys and couldn&#8217;t decide who I would pull for.  Ultimately, I like that <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Penn<\/span> won and things were settled.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Season Six <\/span>of the<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"> Ultimate Fighter <\/span>is set to have <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Matt Serra<\/span> and <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Matt Hughes<\/span> as opposing coaches and we can be sure that they&#8217;ll fight in the finale.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">In other MMA news<\/span>: last night<span style=\"font-size:100%;\"> <\/span><span style=\";font-family:arial;font-size:100%;\"  ><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"> Kimbo Slice<\/span> <a style=\"color: rgb(204, 0, 0);\" href=\"http:\/\/youtube.com\/watch?v=mLOHgwhqGgU\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">easily won<\/span><\/a> his <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">mixed martial arts debut<\/span> against                        <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">46-year old<\/span> former heavyweight boxing champion <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Ray Mercer<\/span>.<\/span><span style=\";font-family:arial;font-size:100%;\"  >  <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Kimbo<\/span> submittd<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"> Mercer<\/span> with a guillotine at <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">1:12<\/span> into the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">first round<\/span>.<\/span><span style=\";font-family:arial;font-size:100%;\"  >  <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Kimbo<\/span> then issued a post fight challenge to <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">&#8220;Tank&#8221; Abbott<\/span> to fight on <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">September 14th<\/span>.  <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Kimbo<\/span> is best known for his extremely popular<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"> &#8220;underground&#8221; fights<\/span> that began appearing on <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">You-Tube<\/span>.
