\nWhile developing the film with Spielberg and screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan, Lucas named the main character \u201cIndiana Smith.\u201d But Spielberg protested that it was too similar to the 1966 Steve McQueen western Nevada Smith <\/em>and requested a change. The three agreed that the last name should be as universal and nondescript as \u201cSmith,\u201d so Lucas threw out \u201cJones\u201d as a possibility. Indiana came from Lucas\u2019 dog, an Alaskan malamute named Indiana. The big, hairy pup was also the inspiration for Chewbacca from Star Wars<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n
\nAs tempting as it may have been for Sean Connery to re-team with Ford on The Crystal Skull<\/em>, the happily retired former James Bond turned down the part.<\/p>\n\n
\nEver since Henry Winkler attempted to sail over a shark in a late-season episode of Happy Days<\/em>, the phrase \u201cjump the shark\u201d has been used to describe the point where a television series goes off the rails in its ridiculousness. The Crystal Skull<\/em> spawned an alternative phrasefor that, known as \u201cnuking the fridge.\u201d And Spielberg seemed surprisingly pleased about it.<\/p>\n
