Cheryl Eddy<\/strong> and io9<\/strong> present 10 Things You Might Not Know About John Carpenter’s Cult Classic They Live<\/em><\/strong><\/a>. \u00a0Here are three of my favorites…<\/p>\n

1)<\/strong> Before they met, Carpenter was a Piper fan, but Piper had never heard of the director<\/strong>, even though his filmography at the time included such high-profile works as Halloween<\/em>, Escape From New York<\/em>, The Thing<\/em>, and Big Trouble in Little China<\/em>.<\/p>\n

2) The greatest fight scene in movie history<\/strong> runs five minutes and 20 seconds long. It took three days to film, but a month and a half of rehearsing in the backyard behind Carpenter\u2019s office in the San Fernando Valley. According to interviews on the They Live<\/em> Blu-ray, Carpenter drew inspiration for the clash from a similarly memorable brawl in The Quiet Man<\/em>, a 1952 John Ford film in which John Wayne plays a retired boxer.<\/p>\n

10) \u201cFrank Armitage,\u201d credited as They Live<\/em>\u2019s screenwriter, is actually a Carpenter pseudonym. <\/strong>It\u2019s a shout-out to H.P. Lovecraft creation Henry Armitage; Carpenter would later pay further tribute to the author with the filmIn the Mouth of Madness<\/em>. (\u201cFrank Armitage\u201d is also the name of David\u2019s character in the film.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
