{"id":15633,"date":"2016-06-14T04:30:22","date_gmt":"2016-06-14T08:30:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=15633"},"modified":"2016-06-11T14:19:24","modified_gmt":"2016-06-11T18:19:24","slug":"15-solid-facts-about-the-flintstones","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=15633","title":{"rendered":"15 Solid Facts About &#8220;The Flintstones&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/2016\/z061416flintstones_trivia.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"356\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Garin Pernia<\/strong> and <strong>Mental_Floss<\/strong> present <a href=\"http:\/\/mentalfloss.com\/article\/81462\/15-solid-facts-about-flintstones\"><strong>15 Solid Facts About <em>The Flintstones<\/em><\/strong><\/a>. &nbsp;Here are three of my favorites&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">4. <em>THE FLINTSTONES<\/em> DIDN\u2019T COPY <em>THE<\/em> <em>HONEYMOONERS<\/em>.<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nIt\u2019s true that Fred was based on Jackie Gleason\u2019s <em>Honeymooners<\/em> character Ralph Kramden, but Joe Barbera made him different. \u201cSo many people say, \u2018Did you copy <em>The Honeymooners<\/em>?\u2019 I said, \u2018Well, if you compare&nbsp;<em>The Flintstones<\/em> to <em>The Honeymooners<\/em>, that\u2019s the biggest compliment you can give me,\u201d Barbera told Emmy TV Legends, \u201cbut <em>The Honeymooners<\/em> don\u2019t have all the gags that we had in there,\u201d including a Stoneway Piano and the Polarrock Camera.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>7. PEBBLES WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A BABY BOY.<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nIn 1962, during the show\u2019s third season, the producers decided Fred and Wilma should have a child. Barbera told Emmy TV Legends the plan was for their child to be a boy, until Ideal Toy Company (the company that created the Rubik\u2019s Cube and Betsy Wetsy) changed his mind. One day, Barbera received a call from the guy in charge of <em>Flintstones<\/em> merchandising. \u201cHe said, \u2018Hey, I hear you\u2019re having a baby on the show.\u2019 I said, \u2018Yeah,\u2019\u201d Barbera said. \u201cHe said, \u2018Is it a boy or a girl?\u2019 \u2018What else, a boy. A chip off the old rock.\u2019 He says, \u2018That\u2019s too bad. I have the ideal toy. If it was a girl, we could\u2019ve made a hell of a deal.\u2019 I said, \u2018It\u2019s is a girl.\u2019\u201d They sold three million dolls within the first couple of months.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">8. MEL BLANC KEPT VOICING BARNEY DESPITE A HORRIBLE CAR ACCIDENT.<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nThe Man of a Thousand Voices portrayed Barney Rubble, even following a devastating head-on car collision in 1961. Blanc didn\u2019t let a 70-day hospital day deter him too much, and when he got out of the hospital, the cast and crew came to his home to record episodes. Blanc recounted the experience in his book<i>, <\/i><em>That\u2019s Not All Folks, writing:<\/em> \u201cTangles of wires were scattered all over the floor, and chairs and microphones were arranged around my hospital bed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The cast gathered around Blanc, and the producers talked to him through a built-in speaker. \u201cEvery couple of hours Joe would ask if I was too tired to carry on, but I insisted on completing the show,\u201d Blanc wrote, saying that they recorded about 40 episodes in that manner. \u201cThankfully, by September, my doctors allowed me to sit up a bit, elevated by way of a pulley-cable system, to a semi-sitting position.
