\"\"<\/a>Since tomorrow is Halloween<\/span>, I thought that I’d find a list of the Top Horror Movies<\/span> and see how I’d rate ’em. So I went to the Internet Movie Data Base <\/span>and checked out their list of the Top 50 Horror Movies of All Time<\/span> [as voted on by users of IMDB<\/span>]. <\/span><\/p>\n

I have to say that I was surprised by some of the movies that made the grade. I was expecting more classic horror film<\/span>s to appear on the list [Dracula, Wolfman, The Creature from the Black Lagoon<\/span>] as well as some lesser known, but still very good horror movies like Them!<\/span> or Frailty<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ok… we have what we have. Taking their list of the top 50<\/span>, I whittled it down to my top 20<\/span> and here they are in alphabetical order with some comments:<\/p>\n

Alien (1979):<\/span> Saw it on its original theatrical run and enjoyed it. A haunted house in outer space!<\/span>
\nAliens (1986):<\/span> Even better than Alien… as much a war movie as a horror movie. Love it!<\/span>
\nBirds, The (1963):<\/span> One of the scariest movies I ever saw as a kid. Still a favorite.<\/span>
\nBride of Frankenstein (1935):<\/span> Even better than Frankenstein. A true classic.<\/span>
\nDawn of the Dead (1978):<\/span> Saw it in a theater the 2nd time [my date couldn’t take it the 1st time]<\/span>
\nExorcist, The (1973): <\/span> the scariest movie I ever saw as an adult. <\/span>
\nFrankenstein (1931): <\/span>A classic!<\/span>
\nFreaks (1932): <\/span>It makes the list, but wouldn’t be near the top.<\/span>
\nHalloween (1978): <\/span> Saw it in a drive-in and it was scary without sound! LOL!<\/span>
\nInvasion of the Body Snatchers (1956):<\/span> Another classic from [before] my childhood.<\/span>
\nInvisible Man, The (1933):<\/span> I didn’t appreciate it until I was an adult!<\/span>
\nJaws (1975):<\/span> Horror? Okay… it is a fun and scary movie.<\/span>
\nKing Kong (1933):<\/span> Another classic.<\/span>
\nNight of the Hunter, The (1955):<\/span> A great film… maybe Mitchum’s best performance ever.<\/span>
\nNight of the Living Dead (1968):<\/span> One of my favorites!<\/span>
\nPsycho (1960): <\/span>Some pretty scary scenes the first time around.<\/span>
\nRosemary’s Baby (1968): <\/span> I saw it in a drive-in as a kid…. creepy stuff.<\/span>
\nShining, The (1980):<\/span> redrum…redrum… redrum…<\/span>
\nThing, The (1982):<\/span> Not as good as the original, but still good. LOL!<\/span>
\nUnknown, The (1927):<\/span> Never cut off your arms for a lover.<\/span><\/p>\n
