\"\"<\/a>I saw “I am Legend”<\/span> at the first showing today in a packed theater. After seeing the CGI “vampires”<\/span> [although they are never called that in the movie] in this trailer<\/span><\/a>, I must admit I went in with a bit of trepidation. But, because the <\/span>Richard Matheson novel<\/a> is so strong, and because the previous two movies [<\/span>The Last Man on Earth<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>The Omega Man<\/span><\/a>] based on the same novel worked on their own levels, I felt that Will Smith<\/span> and crew could pull off a worthy addition to the “I am Legend”<\/span> legacy. So did he? Let’s take a look:<\/p>\n

The Good: <\/span>The concept; Will Smith<\/span> as Robert Neville<\/span>, Sam<\/span>; how the virus is created; taking the time needed to show Neville’s isolation<\/span>; Neville<\/span> going in to save Sam<\/span>; stumbling on the standing\/sleeping “vampires”; snaring a vampire \/ being snared; Sam<\/span> saving Neville<\/span>; how the final scene tied into the title.<\/p>\n

The Bad: <\/span>Most complaints<\/span> that I’ve read about the movie are gripes about the shift<\/span> once the woman and her son arrive. While it’s true that the feel of the movie changes<\/span>, I think that it works<\/span> because we now see just how much Neville<\/span> has lost touch with reality. Pretty bold move if you ask me. Some of the CGI effects<\/span>.<\/p>\n

The Ugly:<\/span> The vampires.<\/p>\n

All-in-all I really enjoyed the movie<\/span> much more than I thought I would going in. It not only will find a place in my dvd library<\/span>, but adds nicely to the “I am Legend” legacy<\/span>.<\/p>\n
