\"\"<\/a>There are currently three movies at the local multiplex that I want to see: “Street Kings,” “The Ruins,”<\/span> and “Diary of the Dead.”<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Today, “Street Kings”<\/span> won out mainly due to the outstanding folks behind it.<\/p>\n

The screenplay<\/span> was created by James<\/span> [novelist and screenwriter – do I really need to list credits for him?] Elroy<\/span>, Kurt<\/span> [“Equilibrium”<\/span><\/a> “The Recruit”] Wimmer<\/span>, and Jamie Moss<\/span>.<\/p>\n

It stars: Keanu<\/span> [“Matrix”] Reeves<\/span>, Forest<\/span> [“The Shield”] Whitaker<\/span>, Hugh<\/span> [“House”] Laurie<\/span>, Chris<\/span> [“Fantastic Four”] Evans<\/span>, Cedric “The Entertainer,” Jay<\/span> [“Suicide Kings”] Mohr<\/span>, Terry<\/span> [“Harsh Times”] Crews<\/span>, Naomi<\/span> [“28 Days Later”] Harris<\/span>, and Amaury<\/span> [“Prison Break”] Nolasco<\/span>.<\/p>\n

It was directed by David<\/span> [“Harsh Times”] Ayer<\/span>.<\/p>\n

The Pitch:<\/span> “The Shield”<\/span> meets “Training Day.” Keanu<\/span> plays a bad cop<\/span> falsely accused of killing his old partner who had been talking to internal affairs. His team has a cover-up in place, but Keanu<\/span> wants to find the killers… no matter the cost to him or the team. Soon no one can be trusted.<\/p>\n

The Good:<\/span> * The story<\/span>. The action<\/span> from the opening scenes to the end. * The cast<\/span>. Chris Evans, Naomi Harris<\/span> and Cedric the Entertainer <\/span>need special mention<\/span> as they made the scenes they were in even better. I was worried that Cedric<\/span> would be out of place in a serious movie, but he made his character work. * The Tension:<\/span> The scene in the apartment <\/span>especially — “I am your nightmare.”<\/span> The scene in the car<\/span> when Keanu<\/span> works the handcuffs and the two scenes that follow <\/span>— not your typical turn of events. * The ending<\/span> [as surprising<\/span> and as bold <\/span>as the ending of “The Mist.”<\/span>]<\/p>\n

The Bad:<\/span> everyone.<\/p>\n

The Ugly: <\/span>the two gangbangers after being dug up.<\/p>\n

Summary: <\/span>Although not a classic, “Street Kings”<\/span> will definitely find a home in my dvd collection. If you’re looking for action in the “Training Day” <\/span>vein, then “Street Kings”<\/span> is for you.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
