{"id":1815,"date":"2008-05-18T16:24:00","date_gmt":"2008-05-18T20:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=1815"},"modified":"2021-03-14T10:01:59","modified_gmt":"2021-03-14T14:01:59","slug":"the-brute-man","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=1815","title":{"rendered":"The Brute Man"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bp1.blogger.com\/_aatuWUTj6ic\/SDCcu5Go6yI\/AAAAAAAABN8\/y790mLwA3cE\/s1600-h\/z051808bruteman.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5201829899029506850\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/bp1.blogger.com\/_aatuWUTj6ic\/SDCcu5Go6yI\/AAAAAAAABN8\/y790mLwA3cE\/s400\/z051808bruteman.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><span style=\";font-family: arial; font-size: 100%;\">I recently watched <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">&#8220;The Brute Man&#8221; <\/span>as the second part of the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">double feature dvd <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">&#8220;M is for Madman&#8221;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">. &#8220;M is for Madman&#8221; <\/span>is the third in <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Bill Blacks&#8217; Crypt of Horror<\/span> series which takes us back to the days when <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">drive-in movies<\/span> and <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">late night horror hosts<\/span> were <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">two<\/span> of the things that made <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">weekends<\/span> so much fun. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">&#8220;M is for Madman&#8221;<\/span><\/span><span style=\";font-family: arial; font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"font-size: 100%;\"> features <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">&#8220;The Man Who Turned to Stone&#8221;<\/span> and <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">&#8220;The Brute Man&#8221;<\/span> hosted by <a style=\"color: #cc0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/profile.myspace.com\/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&amp;friendid=40172556\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Lon Madnight.<\/span><\/a> <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify; font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><br \/>\nLon Madnight<\/span> is our <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">horror host<\/span>. He appears before and after each film to provide <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">insightful trivia<\/span> about the movie to be seen and later leave us with some final thoughts and a chuckle or two. He&#8217;s exactly what&#8217;s needed in a <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">horror host<\/span>. The <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">production values <\/span>on the dvd are <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">top notch<\/span>. The films are <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">crisp and clear<\/span> with <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">excellent sound<\/span>. The movies can be seen without the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Lon Madnight<\/span> openings and closings, but they&#8217;re so much fun, who&#8217;d want to miss them? Priced at <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">less than twenty bucks for two remastered movies<\/span> and <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Lon Midnight<\/span> &#8212; you&#8217;d be hard pressed to find a cheaper evening of family fun.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify; font-family: arial;\">\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\";font-family: arial; font-size: 100%;\">I reviewed<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"> &#8220;The Man Who Turned to Stone&#8221; <a style=\"color: #cc0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/zablozone.blogspot.com\/2008\/05\/man-who-turned-to-stone.html\">here<\/a><\/span>, so let&#8217;s take a look at <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">&#8220;The Brute Man&#8221;<\/span>&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\";font-family: arial; font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">The Pitch: &#8220;Frankenstein&#8221; <\/span>meets<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"> &#8220;The Dark Man&#8221;<\/span> set in the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">1940s<\/span>. A star high school football player is left disfigured by a practical joke and years later comes back for revenge.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\";font-family: arial; font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">The Good: <\/span>The movie moves at a <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">brisk pace<\/span>. All of the cliches of the genre can be found here: <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">spinning newspapers<\/span> with headlines updating us on what we&#8217;ve just seen, the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">blind girl<\/span> who doesn&#8217;t know she&#8217;s <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">harboring the killer<\/span>, a <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">huge disfigured monster<\/span> who walks the streets at night and easily escapes the cops after each murder&#8230; and there&#8217;s even some<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"> comic relief <\/span>with the chief of police and city commissioners. And let&#8217;s not forget <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Rondo Hattan<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\";font-family: arial; font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">The Bad: <\/span>How <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">The Creeper <\/span>kills his victims &#8211; he <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">breaks their backs<\/span>!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\";font-family: arial; font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">The Ugly: The Creeper.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\";font-family: arial; font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">The Summary: <\/span>There are a couple of things that will make this a <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">must own dvd<\/span> for fans of the genre:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\";font-family: arial; font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">1] <\/span> It was produced by <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Universal Pictures<\/span>, so completists will want it for their collection to place along side <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">&#8220;Frankenstein,&#8221; &#8220;Dracula,&#8221; <\/span>etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\";font-family: arial; font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">2]<\/span> It stars <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Rondo Hatton<\/span> as<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"> the monster<\/span>. <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Hattan<\/span> suffered from <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-family: arial;\">acromegaly<\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial;\">, a disease which caused abnormal growth of his hands, feet, and face. Because of the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-family: arial;\">disfigurement<\/span> caused by the <span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-family: arial;\">disease<\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial;\">, makeup wasn&#8217;t needed for <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-family: arial;\">Hattan<\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial;\">. Most reports attribute the onset of this disease to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-family: arial;\">Hattan&#8217;s exposure<\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"> to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-family: arial;\">mustard gas<\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"> in <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-family: arial;\">World War I<\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial;\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-family: arial;\">Hattan<\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"> is somewhat of a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-family: arial;\">legend<\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"> among <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-family: arial;\">horror buffs<\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"> and even has a <\/span><a style=\"color: #cc0000; font-family: arial;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rondoaward.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">horror award<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"> named after him!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\";font-family: arial; font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Trivia:<\/span> <\/span><b style=\"font-family: arial;\">Janelle Johson <\/b><span style=\"font-family: arial;\">had a supporting role in the film.
