Maybe it&#8217;s because I was <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">ten years old<\/span> when the murders that made <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Manson<\/span> infamous were committed.  Then seeing <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Manson<\/span> during his trial with his defiant attitude, &#8220;hypnotic&#8221; eyes, &#8220;creepy crawlers,&#8221; shaved and carved heads and family of followers &#8212; all of it definitely made an impact on this little kid&#8230; especially when I learned that <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Manson<\/span> had served time in my hometown of <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Terre Haute, Ind<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>When I was in high school I read<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"> <a style=\"color: rgb(204, 0, 0);\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0393322238\/105-3412854-3419646?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=craizabls&amp;linkCode=xm2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creativeASIN=0393322238\">Vincent Bugliosi&#8217;s Helter Skelter<\/a><\/span> and at the time it was one of the most shocking books I&#8217;d ever devoured.  I remember watching <a style=\"color: rgb(204, 0, 0);\" href=\"http:\/\/classicshowbiz.blogspot.com\/2008\/06\/tomorrow-show-with-tom-snyder-with.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Tom Snyder&#8217;s interview with Manson<\/span><\/a> when it originally aired in <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">1981<\/span>.  Since then, whenever an interview with <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Manson<\/span> [and they are rare], airs, I find myself tuning in to hear his rants.  It&#8217;s hard to believe that this little man who had less than twenty years of freedom his entire life became the embodiment of evil for at least one generation.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hearing Charles Manson talking always stops me in my tracks.
