{"id":18379,"date":"2017-07-21T05:18:05","date_gmt":"2017-07-21T09:18:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=18379"},"modified":"2017-07-14T12:04:28","modified_gmt":"2017-07-14T16:04:28","slug":"the-50-best-crime-movies-of-the-21st-century-so-far","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=18379","title":{"rendered":"The 50 Best Crime Movies Of The 21st Century So Far"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/2017\/z072117best_crimemovies.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Oliver Lyttelton and \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/theplaylist.net\">The Playlist<\/a> recently posted their choices for <a href=\"http:\/\/theplaylist.net\/the-50-best-crime-movies-of-the-21st-century-so-far-20170627\/#cb-content\">The 50 Best Crime Movies Of The 21st Century So Far<\/a>. \u00a0Here are three of my favorites&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>4. \u201cNo Country For Old Men\u201d (2007)<\/strong><br \/>\nEven knowing the high quality of the Coen Brothers\u2019 work in general, and knowing their love for crime fiction, no one was quite prepared for \u201cNo Country For Old Men.\u201d Their first adaptation (it\u2019s adapted from Cormac McCarthy\u2019s novel), it maintained the greatest qualities of their earlier work \u2014 dry wit, careful plotting, unforgettable characters, bursts of ultraviolence \u2014 but with a darker, more apocalyptic mood than ever before. Even though its story of the aftermath of a drug deal gone wrong, and the men pursuing the money that Llewellyn Moss (Josh Brolin) has taken, is set in 1980s Texas, it somehow feels predictive of the world that we\u2019ve ended up in a decade later in some strange ways, and we\u2019re sure it\u2019ll only continue to resonate further over time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>33. \u201cJohn Wick\u201d (2014)\/\u201cJohn Wick: Chapter 2\u201d (2017)<\/strong><br \/>\nWe couldn\u2019t pick between the two Keanu Reeves-reviving badass-fests here: the first has a purity to it, plus Willem Dafoe and that adorable puppy for the first reel, the second embellishes and extrapolates the film\u2019s strange world and amps the arthouse-action vibe up to eleven. And while they\u2019re action movies first and foremost, they\u2019re also definitely crime films, Chad Stahelski and David Leitch building a fascinating pulp-comic-book underworld more compelling, and full of more intriguing characters and rules, than we\u2019ve seen in this genre for a while. Plus, of course, it has Reeves at his taciturn, quietly psychotic best, it looks beautiful, and it has some of the best shootout sequences since Sam Peckinpah shuffled off the mortal coil. Bring on \u2018Chapter 3,\u2019 as soon as humanly possible.<\/p>\n<p><strong>39. \u201cA History Of Violence\u201d (2005)<\/strong><br \/>\nThe first and best of the two crime pics that David Cronenberg and Viggo Mortensen made together back-to-back, \u201cA History Of Violence\u201d doesn\u2019t initially seem like the sort of thing that the body-horror master would make, but like its lead character, soon reveals itself to have all kinds lurking under the surface. Based on a graphic novel, it sees Tom, a seemingly ordinary family man (Mortensen) praised as a hero after killing two men trying to rob his diner, only for a mysterious, scarred criminal (Ed Harris) to turn up and claim that Tom has a past, and that these were far from the first people he\u2019d killed.
