A Taste of Honey’s “Boogie Oogie Oogie”<\/span><\/del> leads us right to KC and the Sunshine Band<\/span> playing a live version of “That’s the Way I Like It.”<\/span> <\/del><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

I knew that it wouldn’t take long to link to KC and the Sunshine Band<\/span>. Behind the Bee Gees<\/span>, they are probably the band most associated with the disco era. <\/span>KC and the Sunshine Band’s <\/span>songs featured simple, repetitive lyrics paired with music that made you want to move.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The band was formed in 1973<\/span> by Harry Wayne Casey<\/span> [KC] and Richard Finch<\/span>, but it wasn’t until 1975<\/span> and their hit “Get Down Tonight”<\/span><\/del> that the band really took off. The album, their second, went triple platinum<\/span> and the hits just kept on coming. Most people would be surprised to learn that their last<\/span> #1 hit <\/span>was the first hit <\/span>of the 80’s<\/span> [“Please Don’t Go”<\/span><\/del>]. The band broke up in 1981<\/span>. In 1991,<\/span> KC<\/span> came out of retirement and reformed the band without Richard Finch<\/span>. The new band continues to tour with a full schedule. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I was fortunate enough to see KC and the Sunshine Band<\/span> live a couple of times back in the glory days [1976<\/span> and 1977<\/span>]. They definitely earned their money with the great show that they put on. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

One last bit of trivia: Yesterday, <\/span><\/span>Ivan G. Shreve, Jr.<\/a>, <\/span>commented that he really only liked a few disco songs with “Boogie, Oogie, Oogie”<\/span> being one and <\/span>George McCrae’s <\/span><\/span>Rock Your Baby<\/span> <\/i>being another. Well, did you know that Harry Casey<\/span> and Richard Finch<\/span> wrote <\/span><\/span>Rock Your Baby<\/span><\/i><\/span>? They did! It went on to become one of the first and biggest hits of the disco era<\/span> selling 11 million copies<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
