Smith<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Stars: <strong>Jonathan Tucker, Jena Malone, Laura Ramsey, Shawn Ashmore, Joe Anderson<\/strong> and <strong>Sergio Calder\u00f3n.<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">The Pitch:<\/span> I was all set to go with <em><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">\u201cHostel\u201d<\/span><\/em> meets<em><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"> \u201cLittle Shoppe of Horrors\u201d<\/span> <\/em>without the comedy. Then I read <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Jeremy Butler&#8217;s<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">pitch<\/span> [at <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Chud.com<\/span>] of \u201cIt\u2019s <em>&#8216;<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Hostel&#8217;<\/span><\/em> meets <em><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">&#8216;Day of the Triffids&#8217;<\/span>\u201d<\/em> and liked his better.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The Overview:<\/strong> Two young American on vacation\u00a0meet a stranger who tells them about a little-known <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Mayan<\/span> temple. The five of them decide to go out and take a look. Once there, bad things begin to happen. Very bad things.<strong>The Good:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The acting.<\/li>\n<li>The cast was made up of relative unkowns so it was possible that any of them could be killed at any point.<\/li>\n<li>The screenplay by <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Scott B. Smith<\/span> based upon <a style=\"color: #cc0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0307389715\/002-4882510-2093642?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=zone_books-20&amp;linkCode=xm2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creativeASIN=0307389715\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">his novel<\/span><\/a> of the same name [and which he changed up for the big screen].<\/li>\n<li>The fact that you believed what was happening.<\/li>\n<li>That each of the bad things that happens to the characters basically stems from them trying to do a good thing or at least the right thing.<\/li>\n<li>That the movie takes you in one direction and suddenly you\u2019re going in another and it works.<\/li>\n<li>You care about the characters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Bad: What happens when you\u2019re trapped on the top of an ancient ruin by unfriendly locals and something much, much worse.<\/p>\n<p>The Ugly:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe won&#8217;t last much longer like this. We&#8217;re gonna have to cut them off.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCut what off?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis legs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Summary:<\/strong> I love a good scary movie. I\u2019m not much for gore. <a style=\"color: #cc0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B00196UTEG\/002-4882510-2093642?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=zone_books-20&amp;linkCode=xm2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creativeASIN=B00196UTEG\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">\u201cThe Ruins\u201d<\/span><\/a> is scary and contains gore. Some very gory scenes in fact. Despite the gore, I loved <a style=\"color: #cc0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B0013FZUQA\/002-4882510-2093642?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=zone_books-20&amp;linkCode=xm2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creativeASIN=B0013FZUQA\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">\u201cThe Ruins.\u201d<\/span><\/a>\u00a0 I&#8217;d recommend it to anyone who likes horror movies and doesn\u2019t mind being a bit grossed out.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/logo\/zview_a.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"100\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;The Ruins&#8221; (2008) Director: Carter Smith Screenplay: Scott B.
