While I would agree with many of their choices, there were ten that I thought good enough to avoid the dubious honor:<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Soylent Green<\/span>: Sure, it looks dated now, but as a 14 year old watching it for the first time on the big screen, it was cool. Plus there\u2019s that great fight scene between <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Charlton Heston<\/span> and <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Chuck<\/span> [The Rifleman]<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"> Connors<\/span>\u2026 and <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Edward G. Robinson<\/span> in his final performance. Who can forget the classic line yelled by <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Heston<\/span>: \u201c<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Soylent Green<\/span> is \u2026.\u201d [No, I\u2019m not giving it away.]<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Last Action Hero<\/span>: I\u2019ve never understood the backlash against this one. Sure, it\u2019s no classic, but it\u2019s also not as bad as some folks claim. I enjoyed the conceit of the movie: <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Arnold<\/span> is a movie action hero brought to life. We get to see the clich\u00e9s of action films played against a \u201creal world\u201d setting. Maybe people didn\u2019t want that wall broken down. I don\u2019t know, but I can tell you that I thought <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">\u201cLast Action Hero\u201d<\/span> was fun.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">The Island of Dr. Moreau<\/span>: <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Val Kilmer<\/span> and <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Marlon Brando<\/span>. That alone should be worth the price of admission\u2026 especially with some of the choices that <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Brando<\/span> made for the film. It\u2019s no classic, but it sure doesn\u2019t belong on the worst films list.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Rhinestone<\/span>: <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Sly Stallone<\/span>, <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Dolly Parton<\/span> and country music. Okay, I\u2019ll admit I am a bit biased towards <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Stallone<\/span> films. [You\u2019d have never guessed, right?] <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">\u201cRhinestone\u201d<\/span> is not one of <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Sly\u2019s<\/span> best, but it does have some fun moments\u2026 enough to at least keep it off the worst movies of all time list.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Maverick<\/span>: How in the world could <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">James Garner<\/span> returning as <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Daddy Maverick<\/span> and teamed with director, <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Richard Donner<\/span> plus stars <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Mel Gibson<\/span> and <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Jodie Foster<\/span> make this worst movies list? Just watching for all the appearances by <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Graham Greene, Alfred Molina, James Coburn, Geoffrey Lewis, Paul Smith, Dan Hedaya, Denver Pyle, Clint Black, Art LaFleur, Corey Feldman, Waylon Jennings, Vince Gill, William Smith, Doug McClure, Henry Darrow, James Drury, Danny Glover, Margot Kidder, Reba McEntire<\/span> and so many more makes it enough fun to keep it off the list.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Waterworld<\/span>: This is one of those movies doomed from the start due to negative publicity. <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Costner<\/span> and director <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Kevin Reynolds<\/span> had problems and <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Costner<\/span> ended up taking the reins. The movie went way over budget. When it finally opened the buzz was bad. <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">\u201cWaterworld\u201d<\/span> is not a classic, but it is a fun way to spend a couple of hours. Although not based on a comic book, it has a comic book feel. And I mean that in a good way.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">The Godfather Part III<\/span>: How could any movie live up to <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">\u201cThe Godfather\u201d<\/span> and <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">\u201cThe Godfather, Part II\u201d<\/span>? Sure, <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">\u201cGodfather III\u201d <\/span>has it\u2019s problems, but it\u2019s another movie that I think got a far worse backlash than it deserved. Poor <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Sofia Coppola<\/span> got hammered by the press. So too, did her dad for hiring her. Then <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Robert Duvall <\/span>wasn\u2019t brought back because he was asking for too much money? Pay the man! He\u2019s worth it. Still, even with it\u2019s flaws, it has enough going for it to make it worthwhile. Hold it up to <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">\u201cThe Godfather\u201d <\/span>parts one and two and it falls way short, hold it up to 90% of the movies on this list and it towers above them.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Plan 9 from Outer Space<\/span>: There\u2019s no way I can argue that this is a great movie. It\u2019s bad, bad, bad. Terrible dialogue, cheap beyond cheap sets, a stupid plot, burning paper plates as fly saucers, a hokey prologue by <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Criswell <\/span>the psychic, <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Bela Lugosi <\/span>in his last role [he died during filming and was replaced by a taller man who was a dentist by trade] and so much more just make this thing a complete mess. A mess you can\u2019t take your eyes off. A mess that bears repeated viewings. A mess that entertains. And that\u2019s enough to keep it off the list.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Over the Top<\/span>: Like <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">\u201cWaterworld\u201d, \u201cOver the Top\u201d <\/span>was doomed before it opened. <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Stallone\u2019s<\/span> salary got more publicity than the film itself since it made him the highest paid actor in <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Hollywood<\/span>. That coupled with the fact that his character would arm-wrestle his way back into his son\u2019s life kept audiences away. If you can get past the basic premise that <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Stallone<\/span> is a truck driving arm wrestler trying to win back his son\u2019s affection from a rich grandfather who has lied about him\u2026 wait, now as I type this, I\u2019m wondering how I got past the premise! Anyway, I thought the movie was okay. Not great, but definitely not one of the 100 worst.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Anaconda<\/span>: <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Jon Voight<\/span> is so crazy and <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Jennifer Lopez<\/span> is so hot that you just have to go with it. Throw in<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"> Ice Cube, Eric Stoltz, Jonathon Hyde, Owen Wilson, Danny Trejo<\/span> and one big computerized snake and you\u2019re in for 89 minutes of fun.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Sun-Sentinel.com has posted their list of the 100 Worst Movies.
