The graphic above shows who won with a<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"> &#8220;W&#8221; <\/span>[white if I picked them, red for the one fight I got wrong].  <\/span><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">Let&#8217;s take a closer look at the results.<br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Jason &#8220;The Athlete&#8221; Macdonald<\/span> (20-9-0) vs <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Demian Maia<\/span> (7-0-0).  I picked <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Maia<\/span> to continue his streak again <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Jason<\/span>  <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">MacDonald<\/span>.  The first round was exciting and full of moments when each fighter looked as if he had the other ready to go.  Then the pace and action slowed and it went three rounds before <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Maia<\/span> was able to sink in a rear naked choke that <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Macdonald <\/span>couldn&#8217;t shake.  <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Maia<\/span> won by tapout at 2:44 of the third.  His streak lives on.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">+++++<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Kenny Florian<\/span> (9-3) vs <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Roger Huerta<\/span> (22-1) looked to be the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">fight of the night<\/span> and maybe even the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">fight of the year<\/span>! Unfortunately, it proved to be neither.  It was a <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">good, but not a great fight<\/span>. <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"> Huerta<\/span>, at least last night, couldn&#8217;t handle what <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Florian<\/span> brought to the octagon.  <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Huerta<\/span> was game and pressed the fight throughout, but it was <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Florian <\/span>who won the majority of the exchanges.  I had picked <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Huerta<\/span> to win, but it wasn&#8217;t to be.<\/p>\n<p>This is one of those fights where the end result was much closer than the final score would indicate.  <\/span><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">The judges gave <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Florian<\/span> every round &#8212; and I can&#8217;t argue with that, but the rounds were close.  Congrats to <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Florian <\/span>who should now get the respect he deserves and to <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Huerta<\/span> for putting up a game effort.  I look forward to seeing both men in the octagon again against new opponents.<\/span><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><\/span><br \/>+++++<\/p>\n<div  style=\"text-align: justify;font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"font-size:100%;\">The <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold;font-size:100%;\" >Brock Lesnar<\/span><span style=\"font-size:100%;\"> vs <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold;font-size:100%;\" >Heath &#8220;The Texas Crazy Horse&#8221; Herring<\/span><span style=\"font-size:100%;\"> fight had one of the most exciting and shocking starts you could imagine.  Both men rushed to the center of the ring to exchange blows.  <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold;font-size:100%;\" >Lesnar<\/span><span style=\"font-size:100%;\"> hit <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold;font-size:100%;\" >Herring<\/span><span style=\"font-size:100%;\"> flush in the face and it not only knocked him down, but flipped him over backwards into a complete reverse somersault.  Can you imagine being hit that hard,  and as you gain your wits and look up [while still on your knees after being knocked ankles over teakettle] you see<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold;font-size:100%;\" > 285 pounds of enraged muscle<\/span><span style=\"font-size:100%;\"> running full speed at you?  That&#8217;s exactly what <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold;font-size:100%;\" >Herring<\/span><span style=\"font-size:100%;\"> saw.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately the rest of the fight consisted of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold;font-size:100%;\" >Lesnar<\/span><span style=\"font-size:100%;\"> taking <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold;font-size:100%;\" >Herring<\/span><span style=\"font-size:100%;\"> down and controlling him with his size and strength.  To his credit <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold;font-size:100%;\" >Herring<\/span><span style=\"font-size:100%;\"> continued to try to roll <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold;font-size:100%;\" >Lesnar<\/span><span style=\"font-size:100%;\">, look for armbars, but there was nothing he could do with the beast.  The outcome was never in doubt once it became clear that <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold;font-size:100%;\" >Lesnar<\/span><span style=\"font-size:100%;\"> wasn&#8217;t going to gas.<\/p>\n<p>A couple of times in the middle of the bout, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold;font-size:100%;\" >Lesnar<\/span><span style=\"font-size:100%;\"> would &#8220;work the crowd&#8221; to get them chanting his name.  Then with about ten seconds to go in the final round, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold;font-size:100%;\" >Lesnar<\/span> pushed <span style=\"font-weight: bold;font-size:100%;\" >Herring<\/span><span style=\"font-size:100%;\"> away and raised his hands in victory.  The <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold;font-size:100%;\" >unanimous decision<\/span><span style=\"font-size:100%;\"> went to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold;font-size:100%;\" >Lesnar<\/span><span style=\"font-size:100%;\">.  <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold;font-size:100%;\" >Joe Rogan<\/span><span style=\"font-size:100%;\"> went over to do the post fight interview and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold;font-size:100%;\" >Lesnar<\/span><span style=\"font-size:100%;\"> snatched the mic from him and began singing his own praises.  I swear it was like he was in the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold;font-size:100%;\" >WWE<\/span><span style=\"font-size:100%;\"> all over again.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div  style=\"text-align: justify;font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;font-size:100%;\" >Lesnar<\/span><span style=\"font-size:100%;\"> is a huge, tough, strong man. He will be a force in the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold;font-size:100%;\" >MMA<\/span><span style=\"font-size:100%;\">.  I just hope that he gains bit more class and remembers that he&#8217;s no longer a rassler.  Big props to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold;font-size:100%;\" >Herring<\/span><span style=\"font-size:100%;\"> for never backing down and making every effort to pull out a win.<br \/><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-size:100%;\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\";font-family:arial;font-size:100%;\"  >+++++<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\";font-family:arial;font-size:100%;\"  ><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">George St. Pierre<\/span> (16-2) vs <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Jon Fitch<\/span> (21-2-1). Before the fight I commented that   &#8220;<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Fitch<\/span> is without a doubt the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">#2 <\/span>welterweight in the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">UFC<\/span> (maybe the world).  The thing of it is, he&#8217;s fighting the number one guy. <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"> GSP<\/span> is in a league of his own right now.&#8221;  Last night&#8217;s fight proved both points.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\";font-family:arial;font-size:100%;\"  ><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">GSP<\/span> is amazing.  He has strength, speed, skills and heart.  He hit <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Fitch<\/span> with punches and kicks that would have stopped most men, even much bigger men.  A couple of times he dropped <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Fitch<\/span> and yet&#8230; <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Fitch. Kept. On. Coming. Back.  For. More.<\/span>  It was an amazing show of staminia and determine on the part of both men.  Here&#8217;s what <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">GSP<\/span> had to say after the fight: \u201cAfter the third round, I was looking at the clock and <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Jon Fitch<\/span>, he never died. I tried to finish him. In the first round, I tried everything. I saw him fall down and come back, and I thought, \u2018My God, what am I going to have to do to stop this guy?\u2019 It was discouraging.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\";font-family:arial;font-size:100%;\"  ><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">GSP<\/span> won the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">unanimous decision<\/span>.  He was respectful and humble in his victory.  He praised <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Fitch<\/span> and showed the class worthy of a champion.  [<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Brock Lesnar<\/span>, I hope you were watching.<\/span><span style=\"font-size:100%;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">]  <\/span><\/span><span style=\";font-family:arial;font-size:100%;\"  ><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Fitch<\/span>, in losing, proved himself to be a warrior.  <\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-size:100%;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">+++++<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\";font-family:arial;font-size:100%;\"  >There were also <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">two fights<\/span> televised that I hadn&#8217;t talked about, but are worth mentioning now.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\";font-family:arial;font-size:100%;\"  ><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Rob Emerson vs Manny Gamburyan<\/span> brought together two former combatants from <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">The Ultimate Fighter<\/span>.  At the start of the first round both came out swinging, but it was <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Emerson<\/span> who connected and <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Gamburyan<\/span> was down and out could at <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">12 seconds<\/span> of the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">first round<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\";font-family:arial;font-size:100%;\"  ><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Dan Evenson vs Cheick Kongo<\/span>.  Both are very big men.  The difference was that <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Kongo<\/span> had more skills in every area.  <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Evenson<\/span> looked awkward and stiff right up to the point at <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">4:55<\/span> of the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">first round<\/span> when <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Kongo<\/span> knocked him out.  There&#8217;s talk that <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Kongo<\/span> will be <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Brock Lesnar&#8217;s<\/span> next opponent.
