{"id":19794,"date":"2018-02-08T05:01:06","date_gmt":"2018-02-08T09:01:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=19794"},"modified":"2025-09-23T17:09:41","modified_gmt":"2025-09-23T21:09:41","slug":"11-forgotten-tv-detectives-and-crime-solvers-of-the-1970s","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=19794","title":{"rendered":"11 Forgotten TV Detectives and Crime Solvers of the 1970s"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/2018\/z020818tvdetectives_trivia.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">MeTV has an article that presented <em>11 Forgotten TV Detectives and Crime Solvers of the 1970s<\/em>.\u00a0 Although the post is no longer available, here are three of my favorites (and some comments)&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>1. <em>Dan August<\/em> (1970\u201371)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Dan August<\/em> was Burt Reynolds second series after he left <em>Gunsmoke<\/em>. In his first effort, <em>Hawk<\/em>, Reynolds played a detective. The series ran just one season of 17 episodes.\u00a0 Reynolds second television outing as the lead was in <em>Dan August<\/em>.\u00a0 Reynolds played a homicide detective. <em>Dan August<\/em> lasted just one season of 26 episodes.\u00a0 It gained new life after cancellation because Burt Reynolds star was on the rise in feature films.\u00a0 I was a big <em>Dan August<\/em> fan.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. <em>Longstreet<\/em> (1971\u201372)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Longstreet was a blind insurance investigator played by James Franciscus. Little known fact: Bruce Lee appeared in some episodes of the show! Lee played a martial artist who trained the newly blind Longstreet! Bruce Lee was what brought me to watch.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. <em>Toma<\/em> (1973\u201374)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Toma<\/em> was based on a real-life detective named David Toma.\u00a0 Toma was played by Tony Musante.\u00a0 Surprisingly Musante decided to quit after the first season. ABC decided to recast the role with Robert Blake.\u00a0 ABC then opted to dump <em>Toma<\/em> and create a new show with different characters.\u00a0 The new show was <em>Baretta<\/em>.
