Film School Rejects posted their choices for The 50 Best Comedy Movies Ever<\/a>.\u00a0 It’s a good list.\u00a0 Using just their list here are my top five choices along with a few thoughts…<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0 Airplane<\/em> (1980):\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>I saw this on it’s initial theatrical release with a full theater.\u00a0 Rarely have I ever seen and heard so much laughter.\u00a0 Granted, repeated viewings are still funny, but there is nothing like watching for the first time with an audience that gets it.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

4.\u00a0 Blazing Saddles<\/em> (1974)<\/b>
\nand
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>3.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>Young Frankenstein<\/em> (1974)\u00a0 <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span>Again, two more films I saw in packed theaters on their initial release.\u00a0 Mel Brooks was on a roll with his comedic love letters to westerns, movie-making and horror films.\u00a0 They still hold up!<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

2. Dr. Strangelove, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb<\/em> (1964)\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>A comedy with a message and neither suffers at the expense of the other.\u00a0 Remember, “There is no fighting in the war room.”<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

1.\u00a0 \u00a0Arsenic and Old Lace<\/b><\/em> (1944):\u00a0 I love this movie.\u00a0 It’s one I like to share with folks who’ve never seen it.\u00a0 It’s also one I like to revisit every so often.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Two movies that didn’t make the list but should have:\u00a0 Richard Pryor Live<\/em> and Step Brothers<\/em>.<\/p>\n
