\"\"<\/a>The American Film Institute<\/span> has come up with their list of The 10 Greatest Films in 10 Classic Genres<\/span>. Here are my top 3<\/span> from each genre<\/span>:<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n


Animation:<\/span><\/a>
<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. The Lion King (mostly because of my memories of seeing how much my sons enjoyed it when we saw it on the big screen)<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Toy Story (same reason as #1)<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Beauty and the Best (same reason as #1)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n


    Romantic Comedies:<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

    Wow! There are quite a few in the top 10 that I haven’t seen. Makes it easy to pick my top 3:<\/span>
    <\/span><\/p>\n

      \n
    1. When Harry Met Sally (mainly because of the classic deli scene — it still makes me chuckle)<\/span><\/li>\n
    2. Sleepless in Seattle<\/span><\/li>\n
    3. Moonstruck (Cher and Nic Cage before he became an action star!)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n


      Western:<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

      This is a much tougher category. I love a good western.<\/span>
      <\/span><\/p>\n

        \n
      1. The Searchers (The AFI got this one right!)<\/span><\/li>\n
      2. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid<\/span><\/li>\n
      3. Stagecoach<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Ask me again next week and Unforgiven, The Wild Bunch, Shane<\/span> or even Red River<\/span> could make the list at 2 or 3.<\/span><\/p>\n

        Sports:<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

        Ah, my all time favorite movie<\/span> makes this list…<\/span><\/p>\n

        <\/span><\/p>\n

        1. Rocky<\/span><\/li>\n
        2. Raging Bull<\/span><\/li>\n
        3. The Hustler<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
          Of course we all know that Sly “Rocky” Stallone<\/span> and Robert “Raging Bull” DeNiro <\/span>co-starred in Cop Land<\/span>! [But did we all know that in 1976<\/span>, both Stallone <\/span>and DeNiro<\/span> duked it out for the Best Actor Oscar<\/span>!]<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n


          Mystery:<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

          Another tough category…<\/span>
          <\/span><\/p>\n

            \n
          1. North by Northwest<\/span><\/li>\n
          2. The Maltese Falcon<\/span><\/li>\n
          3. The Usual Suspects<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            With Rear Window, Vertigo<\/span> and Chinatown<\/span> just missing out.<\/span><\/p>\n

            Fantasy:<\/span><\/a> The AFI <\/span>and I agree on the top film! [It’s my all-time #2 favorite movie<\/span>.]<\/span>
            <\/span><\/p>\n

            1. The Wizard of Oz<\/span><\/li>\n
            2. King Kong<\/span><\/li>\n
            3. The Lord of the Rings<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n


              Sci-Fi:<\/span><\/a> A bunch of great films made the list, but where is Aliens, The Matrix, Highlander<\/span>, etc?<\/span>
              <\/span><\/p>\n

              1. Terminator 2: Judgment Day<\/span><\/li>\n
              2. Invasion of the Body Snatchers<\/span><\/li>\n
              3. Alien<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n


                Gangster:<\/span><\/a> The AFI <\/span>got it right again… at least with the number 1 slot!<\/span>
                <\/span><\/p>\n

                  \n
                1. The Godfather<\/span><\/li>\n
                2. The Godfather, Part II<\/span><\/li>\n
                3. Pulp Fiction<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n


                  Courtroom Drama:<\/span><\/a> Wow! The AFI <\/span>and I are in sync… at least for the top2.<\/span>
                  <\/span><\/p>\n

                    \n
                  1. To Kill a Mockingbird<\/span><\/li>\n
                  2. 12 Angry Men<\/span><\/li>\n
                  3. A Few Good Men<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n


                    Compulsion would have been my third choice if it had made the AFI list.<\/span><\/p>\n

                    Epic:<\/span><\/a>
                    <\/span><\/p>\n

                    1. Spartacus<\/span><\/li>\n
                    2. Ben-Hur<\/span><\/li>\n
                    3. Saving Private Ryan<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
