Matthew Jackson at Mental Floss presents The 25 Greatest Heist Movies of All Time<\/a>.\u00a0 Jackson’s list is a good one.\u00a0 I’ve seen 18 of the 25 films listed.\u00a0 Here are my thoughts on each of the movies Jackson selected.<\/p>\n

1. THE ASPHALT JUNGLE<\/em> (1950) – An excellent choice for number one.\u00a0 John Huston directs a great cast in a classic film.<\/p>\n

2. RIFIFI<\/em> (1955) – The heist itself is an extended classic scene without dialogue.\u00a0 Another excellent choice.<\/p>\n

3. THE LADYKILLERS<\/em> (1955) – I haven’t seen this one.<\/p>\n

4. THE KILLING<\/em> (1956) – I love this film and it gets better with each viewing. I wouldn’t have argued if it had placed higher.<\/p>\n

5. BOB LE FLAMBEUR<\/em> (1956) – I haven’t seen this one, but would like to.<\/p>\n

6. THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR<\/em> (1968) – The first film on the list that I’ve seen and didn’t love.\u00a0 In fact I would have chosen McQueen in The Getaway<\/em> instead.<\/p>\n

7. THE ITALIAN JOB<\/em> (1969) – I haven’t seen it.<\/p>\n

8. THE STING<\/em> (1973) – Newman and Redford re-teamed for an excellent follow-up to Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid<\/em>.<\/p>\n

9. DOG DAY AFTERNOON<\/em> (1975) – A unique story told from a perspective most wouldn’t expect.<\/p>\n

10. BLUE COLLAR<\/em> (1978) – I’ve never seen this one and until this list didn’t realize it was a heist film.<\/p>\n

11. THIEF<\/em> (1981) – Thief<\/em> takes us into a world alien to us civilians.\u00a0 You can see the groundwork for Heat<\/em> being developed by Mann.<\/p>\n

12. DIE HARD<\/em> (1988) – A classic.\u00a0 Until this list, I had never considered Die Hard<\/em> to be a heist movie but it is.<\/p>\n

13. RESERVOIR DOGS<\/em> (1992) – My favorite Tarantino movie.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

14. HEAT<\/em> (1995) – Love this one.\u00a0 I wonder why it didn’t rate higher.<\/p>\n

15. BOTTLE ROCKET<\/em> (1996) – I haven’t see this one.<\/p>\n

16. OUT OF SIGHT<\/em> (1998) – I was surprised by how much I liked this one.\u00a0 I need to see it again.<\/p>\n

17. SEXY BEAST<\/em> (2000) – I haven’t seen this one.<\/p>\n

18. OCEAN’S ELEVEN<\/em> (2001) – Saw it when it was first released and thought it was ok.<\/p>\n

19. INSIDE MAN<\/em> (2006) – Another movie that I thought was just ok.<\/p>\n

20. THE TOWN<\/em> (2010) – I love The Town<\/em> and would have rated it much higher.<\/p>\n

21. FAST FIVE<\/em> (2011) – I like the Fast & Furious<\/em> series but truthfully they all start to run together as they get more and more outlandish.\u00a0 I still dig ’em though.<\/p>\n

22. HELL OR HIGH WATER<\/em> (2016) – Surprisingly good and doesn’t follow the typical Hollywood format.<\/p>\n

23. BABY DRIVER<\/em> (2017) – What a stylishly unique film.\u00a0 I can’t wait to see it again…\u00a0<\/p>\n

24. LOGAN LUCKY<\/em> (2017) – This was a much better and funnier movie than I expected.<\/p>\n

25. WIDOWS<\/em> (2018) – I haven’t seen it, but wouldn’t mind doing so.<\/p>\n
