{"id":24489,"date":"2020-09-03T07:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-09-03T11:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=24489"},"modified":"2020-09-02T18:20:01","modified_gmt":"2020-09-02T22:20:01","slug":"john-woos-the-killer-trivia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=24489","title":{"rendered":"John Woo&#8217;s &#8220;The Killer&#8221; Trivia!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/2020\/z090320johnwoo_thekiller_trivia.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"728\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I remember the first time I saw John Woo&#8217;s <em>The Killer<\/em>.\u00a0 My mind was blown.\u00a0 I called my best bud, John Beatty to talk about the amazing action movie I had just seen.\u00a0 This cat Chow Yun Fat was just too cool and the director John Woo?\u00a0 Forget about it.\u00a0 This dude had guys shooting with two guns while doing crazy stunts, gun to gun stand-offs from guys close enough to touch each other, and just all out over the top action.\u00a0 I still have my<em> The Killer<\/em> poster (the same as the one above and a gift from Mr. Beatty) hanging in my fortress of solitude (right behind me).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Rob Hunter at <a href=\"https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/\">Film School Rejects<\/a> reminded me of all this with his post, <a href=\"https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/the-killer-commentary\/?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+FilmSchoolRejects+%28Film+School+Rejects%29#utm_source=rss&amp;utm_medium=rss&amp;utm_campaign=the-killer-commentary\">26 Things We Learned from &#8216;The Killer&#8217; Commentary<\/a>.\u00a0 Before you click over, here are three of my favorites&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Woo has previously acknowledged that the film was inspired by Jean-Pierre Melville\u2019s <em>Le Samurai<\/em> (1967) which was in turn inspired by a novel titled <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ronin<\/span> by Joan McLeod. Other inspirations mentioned include Martin Scorsese\u2019s <em>Mean Streets<\/em> (1973), Francois Truffaut\u2019s <em>Jules and Jim<\/em> (1962), and the films of Sam Peckinpah.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">(I haven&#8217;t seen <em>Le Samurai<\/em>, but it does show up on TCM, so I will.\u00a0<em> Jules and Jim<\/em> is another I&#8217;ll have to watch for.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve seen <em>Mean Streets<\/em> and of course many of the films of Sam Peckinpah. &#8211; Craig)<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The commentary was recorded in 2002, and even back then there\u2019s mention of rumored US remakes of the film. He mentions supposed remakes with Denzel Washington &amp; Richard Gere and Michelle Yeoh &amp; Sharon Stone. A Hollywood redo is still currently listed on IMDB.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">(Sly Stallone was also attached to a US remake &#8212; he was working on the screenplay and it was titled <em>Maggie&#8217;s Eyes<\/em>. &#8211; Craig)<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Fat turned down offers to star in <em>Alien: Resurrection<\/em> (1997) and as Morpheus in <em>The Matrix<\/em> (1999).
