{"id":24631,"date":"2020-10-14T17:26:44","date_gmt":"2020-10-14T21:26:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=24631"},"modified":"2021-05-22T09:51:12","modified_gmt":"2021-05-22T13:51:12","slug":"24631","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=24631","title":{"rendered":"Tax Collector (2020) \/ Z-View"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/2020\/z101420zview_taxcollector.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"741\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Before we get into my review of <em>Tax Collector<\/em>, let me say that I&#8217;m a David Ayer fan and after seeing the poster and trailer for <em>Tax Collector<\/em> back in July, <a href=\"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=23729\">I posted them both<\/a> saying that I looked forward to seeing the movie.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.comingsoon.net\/\">ComingSoon.net<\/a>\u00a0 recently had a contest for a free DVD of <em>Tax Collector<\/em>.\u00a0 I entered and won a copy.\u00a0 That copy is what I am reviewing.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Tax Collector<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(2020)<\/p>\n<p>Director:<strong> David Ayer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Screenplay: <strong>David Ayer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Stars:\u00a0<strong> Bobby Soto, Cinthya Carmona, Shia LaBeouf, Jose Conejo Martin, Cheyenne Rae Hernandez, George Lopez\u00a0<\/strong>and <strong>Brian Ortega<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Pitch: &#8220;David Ayer is ready to make another movie!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tagline:\u00a0<em>From the Creator of\u00a0 &#8220;Training Day&#8221; and &#8220;End of Watch&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Overview:\u00a0 Beware of Spoilers\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">David Cuevas (Soto) and his crime partner, Creeper (LaBeouf) are tax collectors for a crime lord known as The Wizard.\u00a0 They collect a 30% tax on all illegal gang activity in the city.\u00a0 If the money isn&#8217;t on time or the count comes up short, Cuevas and Creeper resolve the issue so it doesn&#8217;t happen again.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cuevas is living a double life of sorts.\u00a0 He has a beautiful wife and two children. He wants to be a good husband and father.\u00a0 The life Cuevas lives has given him a nice house, lots of money and respect, but the things he does to earn them are hard to justify.\u00a0 While Cuevas is a religious man, his partner, Creeper has come to terms with who they are and what they do.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Things go smoothly until a Conejo (Martin), a rival gang lord, returns to the city with intent to take over the Wizard&#8217;s operation.\u00a0 Conejo meets with Cuevas and offers him a choice: join Conejo or Cuevas and his family will be killed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To tell more would be to give away too much.\u00a0 The movie contains more than a few twists, but it shouldn&#8217;t be a surprise to anyone going to see <em>Tax Collector<\/em> that there are scenes of brutal violence.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re a fan of David Ayer, then you know what to expect.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As a screenwriter, Ayer got my attention with <em>Training Day<\/em>.\u00a0 As a director, it was with <em>Street Kings<\/em>.\u00a0 Then as a writer\/director he brought us <em>Harsh Times<\/em>, <em>End of Watch<\/em>, <em>Sabotage<\/em> (one of Arnold&#8217;s best), and <em>Fury<\/em> just to name a few.\u00a0 Ayers&#8217; films take us into a world where men are placed in violent situations and there are consequences to their actions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I&#8217;ve never been a big Shia LaBeouf fan, but man, he owns every scene he is in.\u00a0 His character, Creeper, is a stone cold killer, and LaBeouf was perfect for the part.\u00a0 Remember <em>No Country for Old Men<\/em> and the character Anton Chigurh played by Javier Bardem?\u00a0 Remember the universal praise Bardem rightly received?\u00a0 I&#8217;d rate LaBeaouf&#8217;s performance at the same level.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Other standout performances include Cheyenne Rae Hernandez as Gata and\u00a0 Jose Conejo Martin as Conejo.\u00a0 It was also cool to see George Lopez playing against character and Brian Ortega from the UFC in a supporting role.<\/p>\n<p>I really liked the <em>Tax Collector<\/em>.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re a David Ayer fan, you probably will as well.<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/F8s4PZ0JENc\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center><br \/>\n<strong>Rating:<\/strong><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/logo\/zview_b.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"75\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Before we get into my review of Tax Collector, let me say that I&#8217;m a David Ayer fan and after<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":912,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_dont_email_post_to_subs":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_feature_clip_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false},"categories":[61,17,51,54,74],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-24631","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-authors","category-celebs","category-crime","category-movies","category-z-view"],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack_sharing_enabled":true,"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/24631","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/912"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=24631"}],"version-history":[{"count":3,"href":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/24631\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":24747,"href":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/24631\/revisions\/24747"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=24631"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=24631"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=24631"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
