In these days of streaming with hundreds of cable channels and options specifically geared to taste, when we look back at the days of three basic network options, it is funny to think of how limited our viewing choices were.\u00a0 It also brings to mind how difficult it must have been for television programmers to put together that magical line-up that would keep viewers on their network.<\/p>\n
The fine folks at MeTV decided to look at all of the line-ups from the dawn of television through our current options to determine What was the Best Network Television Lineup Ever?\u00a0<\/strong> Unfortunately Me-TV’s article is no longer available.\u00a0 But based on their top ten, here are my thoughts and choices for the best line-ups ever.<\/p>\n 10. CBS Friday 1979\u20131980:<\/strong> The Incredible Hulk<\/em> \u2013 The Dukes of Hazzard<\/em> \u2013 Dallas<\/em>. (I’ve watched a couple of episodes of The Incredible Hulk<\/em> and have never seen a complete episode of Dukes<\/em> or Dallas<\/em>. – Craig)<\/p>\n 9. ABC Friday 1971\u201372:<\/strong> \u00a0The Brady Bunch<\/em> \u2013 The Partridge Family<\/em> \u2013 Room 222<\/em> \u2013 The Odd Couple<\/em> \u2013 Love, American Style<\/em>. (I’d watch The Brady Bunch<\/em> and The Partridge Family<\/em>, occasionally The Odd Couple<\/em> and usually Love, American Style<\/em>. – Craig)<\/p>\n 8. CBS Sunday 1956\u201357:<\/strong> Lassie<\/em> \u2013 The Jack Benny Program<\/em> \u2013 The Ed Sullivan Show<\/em> \u2013 General Electric Theater<\/em> \u2013 Alfred Hitchcock Presents<\/em> \u2013 The $64,000 Challenge<\/em> \u2013 What’s My Line?<\/em>\u00a0 (Since I wasn’t born yet, I didn’t see any of them that season.\u00a0 I am a fan of The Jack Benny Program<\/em> and Alfred Hitchcock Presents<\/em> which I’ve seen in reruns. – Craig)<\/p>\n 7. ABC Thursday 1966\u201367:<\/strong> Batman<\/em> \u2013 F Troop<\/em> \u2013 The Dating Game<\/em> \u2013 Bewitched<\/em> \u2013 That Girl<\/em>.\u00a0 (I never missed Batman<\/em>, occasionally watched F Troup<\/em> and The Dating Game<\/em>.\u00a0 I usually would watch Bewitched<\/em> and occasionally That Girl.<\/em> – Craig)<\/p>\n 6. ABC Thursday 1972-73:<\/strong>\u00a0 The Mod Squad<\/em> \u2013 Kung Fu<\/em> \u2013 The Streets of San Francisco<\/em>. (I always watched Kung Fu<\/em> but neither of the other two. – Craig)<\/p>\n 5. Fox Sunday 1999\u20132000:<\/strong> Futurama<\/em> \u2013 King of the Hill<\/em> \u2013 The Simpsons<\/em> \u2013 Malcolm in the Middle<\/em> \u2013 The X-Files<\/em>. (I didn’t watch any of these shows. – Craig)<\/p>\n 4. NBC Thursday 1993\u201394:<\/strong>\u00a0 Mad About You<\/em> \u2013 Wings<\/em> \u2013 Seinfeld<\/em> \u2013 Frasier<\/em> \u2013 Homicide<\/em>.\u00a0 (I always watched Mad About You<\/em>, Wings<\/em>, Seinfeld<\/em> and Frasier<\/em>.\u00a0 Homicide<\/em> was the show that kept this line-up from being a clean sweep for me. – Craig)<\/p>\n 3. CBS Saturday 1959\u201360:<\/strong>\u00a0 Perry Mason<\/em> \u2013 Wanted: Dead or Alive<\/em> \u2013 Mr. Lucky<\/em> \u2013 Have Gun, Will Travel<\/em> \u2013 Gunsmoke<\/em>. (I was too young to watch. – Craig)<\/p>\n 2. NBC Thursday 1984\u201385:<\/strong>\u00a0 The Cosby Show<\/em> \u2013 Family Ties<\/em> \u2013 Cheers<\/em> \u2013 Night Court<\/em> \u2013 Hill Street Blues<\/em>. (I always watched all of these shows.\u00a0 This was a perfect line-up for me. – Craig)<\/p>\n 1. CBS Saturday 1974\u201375:<\/strong> All in the Family<\/em> \u2013 The Jeffersons<\/em> \u2013 Mary Tyler Moore<\/em> \u2013 The Bob Newhart Show<\/em> \u2013 The Carol Burnett Show<\/em>.
