Directed by Academy Award<\/em>\u00ae winner Steven Spielberg, from a screenplay by Pulitzer Prize<\/em> and Tony Award<\/em>\u00ae winner Tony Kushner, \u201cWest Side Story\u201d<\/em> tells the classic tale of fierce rivalries and young love in 1957 New York City. This reimagining of the beloved musical stars Ansel Elgort (Tony); Rachel Zegler (Mar\u00eda); Ariana DeBose (Anita); David Alvarez (Bernardo); Mike Faist (Riff); Josh Andr\u00e9s Rivera (Chino); Ana Isabelle (Rosal\u00eda); Corey Stoll (Lieutenant Schrank); Brian d\u2019Arcy James (Officer Krupke); and Rita Moreno (as Valentina, who owns the corner store in which Tony works). Moreno \u2013 one of only three artists to be honored with Academy<\/em>\u00ae, Emmy<\/em>\u00ae, GRAMMY<\/em>\u00ae, Tony<\/em>\u00ae and Peabody Awards<\/em> \u2013 also serves as one of the film\u2019s executive producers.<\/p>\n

Bringing together the best of both Broadway and Hollywood, the film\u2019s creative team includes Kushner, who also serves as an executive producer; Tony Award<\/em>\u00ae winner Justin Peck, who choreographed the musical numbers in the film; renowned Los Angeles Philharmonic conductor and GRAMMY Award<\/em>\u00ae winner Gustavo Dudamel, who helmed the recording of the iconic score; Academy Award<\/em>\u00ae-nominated composer and conductor David Newman (\u201cAnastasia\u201d<\/em>), who arranged the score; Tony Award\u00ae-winning composer Jeanine Tesori (\u201cFun Home,\u201d \u201cThoroughly Modern Millie\u201d<\/em>), who supervised the cast on vocals; and Grammy<\/em>\u00ae-nominated music supervisor Matt Sullivan (\u201cBeauty and the Beast,\u201d \u201cChicago\u201d<\/em>), who served as executive music producer for the film. The film is produced by Spielberg, Academy Award<\/em>\u00ae-nominated producer Kristie Macosko Krieger and Tony Award<\/em>\u00ae-winning producer Kevin McCollum. \u201cWest Side Story\u201d<\/em> has been adapted for the screen from the original 1957 Broadway show, with book by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and concept, direction and choreography by Jerome Robbins.<\/p>\n

From 20th Century Studios, The Walt Disney Company will release \u201cWest Side Story\u201d<\/em> in U.S. theaters on December 10, 2021.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
