{"id":27551,"date":"2021-05-10T07:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-05-10T11:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=27551"},"modified":"2021-05-22T09:50:35","modified_gmt":"2021-05-22T13:50:35","slug":"the-monkees-behind-the-music-and-farewell-tour-coming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=27551","title":{"rendered":"The Monkees: Behind the Music and Farewell Tour Coming!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/2021\/z051021monkees_behindthemusic.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"560\" \/><br \/>I was the perfect age to enjoy The Monkees.\u00a0 They already had a #1 single (<em>Last Train to Clarksville<\/em>) when their series premiered in September 1966.\u00a0 I was a month away from turning 8.\u00a0 The Monkees were instant stars.\u00a0 In 1967, The Monkees sold more records than The Beatles and The Rolling Stones combined.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Little did fans know that behind the scenes there was turmoil.\u00a0 The Monkees had some of the best song writers (Tommy Boyce &amp; Bobby Hart, Neil Diamond, Carole King to name a few) and studio musicians (Glen Campbell!) playing on their songs, but The Monkees weren&#8217;t allowed creative control or even allowed to play instruments for their records.\u00a0 They were told what to sing, and when to sing.\u00a0 Of course this didn&#8217;t sit well with them.\u00a0 Tensions grew after The Monkees went on a sold out tour where they did sing and play their own instruments.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Despite a popular television show, a feature film, and three number one albums in a row things were about to come off the rails.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>The Monkees: Behind the Music<\/em> is an extremely well done short documentary that looks at the rise and fall of The Monkees.\u00a0 It&#8217;s interesting to note the number of comebacks the group has made over the years with different combinations of Davy, Mickey, Mike and Peter&#8230;
