{"id":27565,"date":"2021-05-13T06:35:00","date_gmt":"2021-05-13T10:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=27565"},"modified":"2021-05-22T09:50:35","modified_gmt":"2021-05-22T13:50:35","slug":"the-all-time-best-sitcoms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=27565","title":{"rendered":"The All-Time Best Sitcoms!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/2021\/z051321alltime_best_sitcoms.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"600\"><br>Alan Sepinwall, Maria Fontoura, David Fear and Rob Sheffield at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/\">The Rolling Stone<\/a> took on the monumental task of<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/tv\/tv-lists\/best-tv-sitcoms-1162237\/schitts-creek-2015-2020-1163263\/\"> Ranking the 100 All-Time Best Sitcoms<\/a>.&nbsp; <a href=\"http:\/\/kenlevine.blogspot.com\/2021\/05\/top-100-sitcoms-of-all-time-really.html\">Ken Levine<\/a>&nbsp;(who&#8217;s written for shows that made the list) explains why creating this ranking is a fool&#8217;s errand.&nbsp; While I agree with Ken, I&#8217;m fool enough to play along.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Of the top 100 on their list, I&#8217;ve seen less than half.&nbsp; 41 to be exact.&nbsp; Since we&#8217;re just going to compare their top 10 to mine, that won&#8217;t be an issue since I&#8217;ve seen all of their top choices regularly except for two.&nbsp; So without further fanfare, here are Rolling Stone&#8217;s All-Time Best Sitcoms compared to mine.<\/p>\n<table border=\"1\" width=\"100%\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"4\">\n<tbody>\n<tr valign=\"TOP\">\n<td style=\"text-align: center;\" width=\"50%\"><strong>Rolling Stone<\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"text-align: center;\" width=\"50%\"><strong>Craig<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr valign=\"TOP\">\n<td width=\"50%\">10. <em>Larry Sanders Show <\/em>(HBO, 1992-1998)<\/td>\n<td width=\"50%\">10. <em>Andy Griffith Show<\/em> (CBS, 1960-1968): <strong>Episodes featuring Barney are among the best sitcom episodes ever.<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr valign=\"TOP\">\n<td width=\"50%\">9. <em>Parks and Recreation <\/em>(NBC, 2009-2015)<\/td>\n<td width=\"50%\">9. <em>Mary Tyler Moore Show <\/em>(CBS, 1970-1977): <strong>was must-see tv.<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr valign=\"TOP\">\n<td width=\"50%\">8. <em>Honeymooners<\/em>&nbsp;(CBS, 1955-1956)<\/td>\n<td width=\"50%\">8. <em>Modern Family<\/em> (ABC, 2009-2020): <strong>Started as a fun watch and then became must-see.<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr valign=\"TOP\">\n<td width=\"50%\">7. <em>Mary Tyler Moore Show <\/em>(CBS, 1970-1977)<\/td>\n<td width=\"50%\">7. Frasier (NBC, 1993-2004):<strong> I&#8217;m one of the folks that prefer <em>Frasier<\/em> to <em>Cheers<\/em>.<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr valign=\"TOP\">\n<td width=\"50%\">6. <em>M*A*S*H <\/em>(CBS, 1972-1983)<\/td>\n<td width=\"50%\">6. <em>Big Bang Theory<\/em> (CBS, 2007-2019):<strong> I came to this one late, but then caught up.&nbsp; <em>BBT<\/em> became must-see for us.<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr valign=\"TOP\">\n<td width=\"50%\">5.&nbsp; <em>All in the Family<\/em> (CBS, 1971-1979)<\/td>\n<td width=\"50%\">5. <em>Sanford and Son<\/em> (NBC, 1972-1977): <strong><em>S&amp;S<\/em> is often compared to <em>All in the Family<\/em>, but I think that<em> S&amp;S<\/em> holds it&#8217;s own against <em>AitF<\/em> (and is better when comparing the later seasons of each)<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr valign=\"TOP\">\n<td width=\"50%\">4. <em>I Love Lucy<\/em> (CBS, 1951-1957)<\/td>\n<td width=\"50%\">4. <em>Everybody Loves Raymond<\/em> (CBS, 1996-2005): <strong>I didn&#8217;t start watching <em>ELR<\/em> until near the end of the run.&nbsp; It grew on me and I&#8217;ve now seen every episode at least once.<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr valign=\"TOP\">\n<td width=\"50%\">3.&nbsp; <em>Seinfeld<\/em>&nbsp;(NBC, 1989-1998)<\/td>\n<td width=\"50%\">3. <em>I Love Lucy<\/em> (CBS, 1951-1957): <strong>Every episode until they move to the country is classic.<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr valign=\"TOP\">\n<td width=\"50%\">2. <em>Cheers<\/em> (NBC, 1982-1993)<\/td>\n<td width=\"50%\">2. Seinfeld (NBC, 1989-1998):<strong> was required viewing since everyone discussed the latest episode the day after it aired.&nbsp; Holds up under multiple viewings.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr valign=\"TOP\">\n<td width=\"50%\">1. <em>Simpsons<\/em>&nbsp;(Fox, 1989-Present)<\/td>\n<td width=\"50%\">1. <em>Honeymooners<\/em> (CBS, 1955-1956): <strong>Simple format, perfectly cast and still funny over half a century later.<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I was surprised that <em>Two and a Half Men<\/em> didn&#8217;t make the All-Time Greatest list.  The years featuring Charlie Sheen would have made mine.  It just didn&#8217;t work for me once he was gone.  Jon Cryer was still funny but, for me, the magic left with Charlie.
