Gavin MacLeod, best known to fans as either the the loveable Captain Stubing of The Love Boat<\/em>, or the witty Murray Slaughter from The Mary Tyler Moore Show<\/em>, died yesterday at the age of 90.\u00a0 MacLeod, who was born Allan George See, but changed his name for show biz.<\/p>\n Gavin MacLeod began his acting career in 1957 and he alternated with smaller roles in television and movies.\u00a0 In 1962, he became a regular on McHale’s Navy<\/em>.\u00a0 After two seasons he left the series and took a role in The Sand Pebbles<\/em> staring Steve McQueen.\u00a0 MacLeod followed that role with guest appearance on many popular television shows including (but not limited to): The Munsters, Rawhide, Gomer Pyle, The Man from UNCLE, The Andy Griffith Show, The Rat Patrol, Ironside, Hawaii 5-0, Hogan’s Heroes, Love American Style<\/em>.\u00a0 \u00a0Along the way Mr. McLeod also appeared in feature films including his role in Kelly’s Heroes<\/em> with Clint Eastwood.<\/p>\n In 1970, Gavin MacLeod began playing Murray Slaughter when The Mary Tyler Moore Show <\/em>premiered\u00a0 After the show ended, he accepted the lead as Captain Merrill Stubing in The Love Boat<\/em>.\u00a0 That series ran for ten years as well as a tv movie and a spin-off series: The Love Boat: The Next Wave<\/em>.\u00a0 Gavin MacLeod continued to act until 2014.\u00a0<\/p>\n I was a huge fan of Gavin MacLeod’s Murray Slaughter.\u00a0 Often he was the funniest on a show full of talented comedians.\u00a0 I always love when he turns up in any show or movie that I’m watching and perhaps my favorite surprise appearance is in Compulsion<\/em> (an under-rated movie) where he plays an assistant to the DA.<\/p>\n Our thoughts and prayers go out to Gavin MacLeod’s family, friends and fans.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" \u00a0 Gavin MacLeod, best known to fans as either the the loveable Captain Stubing of The Love Boat, or the<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":912,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_dont_email_post_to_subs":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[17,53,54,57,65],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-27707","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-celebs","category-horror","category-movies","category-rip","category-trivia"],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack_sharing_enabled":true,"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/27707","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/912"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=27707"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/27707\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":27708,"href":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/27707\/revisions\/27708"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=27707"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=27707"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=27707"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
