Nesmith was a singer, song writer, actor, producer and novelist!\u00a0 He was best known for his role as a member of <em><strong>The Monkees<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: arial; text-align: justify;\"><em><strong>The Monkees<\/strong><\/em> [<strong>Mike<\/strong>, as he was called then,\u00a0along with <strong>Davy Jones<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Mickey Dolenz<\/strong>, and <strong>Peter Tork<\/strong>] took the world by storm in <strong>1966<\/strong>.\u00a0 The group was hand-picked by <strong>Screen Gems<\/strong> in an effort to create a <strong>tv show<\/strong> about a group of young musicians.\u00a0 Lightning struck and the group not only had a <strong>hit tv series<\/strong> but became one of the <strong>biggest selling bands<\/strong> of the<strong> 60&#8217;s<\/strong>.\u00a0 In <strong>1967<\/strong>, <em><strong>The Monkees<\/strong><\/em> sold more albums than <em><strong>The Beatles<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>The Rolling Stones<\/strong><\/em> combined.\u00a0 <em><strong>The Monkees<\/strong><\/em> even appeared in a feature film called <em><strong>Head<\/strong><\/em> that was co-written by <strong>Jack Nicholson<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: arial; text-align: justify;\">I was a huge <em><strong>Monkees<\/strong><\/em> fan like many kids my age [7].\u00a0 I collected their <strong>albums, trading cards, comic books<\/strong> and <strong>magazines<\/strong>.\u00a0 I had a model of The <strong>Monkeemobile<\/strong>.\u00a0 I even followed <em><strong>The Monkees<\/strong><\/em> after <strong>Peter<\/strong>, then later <strong>Mike<\/strong>, quit the band.\u00a0 Sadly, I never got to see them perform live when they reunited for several reunion tours.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: arial; text-align: justify;\">Our thoughts and prayers go out to <strong>Michael Nesmith&#8217;s<\/strong> family, friends and fans.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Michael Nesmith died today from heart failure at the age of 78.
