I just read today at Ivan Shreve’s blog<\/strong><\/a> that Dan Seals<\/a> has died<\/strong> after a long bout with cancer.\u00a0 If you didn’t recognize the name, perhaps you knew him better as “England Dan”<\/strong> of the popular 70’s<\/strong> recording duo England Dan and John Ford Coley<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Between 1976<\/strong> and 1979<\/strong>, England Dan and John Ford Coley<\/strong> had six top 40 singles<\/strong> [“I’d Really Love to See You Tonight,”<\/strong> “Nights Are Forever Without You,:” “It’s Sad to Belong,”<\/strong> “Gone Too Far,” “We’ll Never Have to Say Goodbye Again,”<\/strong> and “Love is the Answer”<\/strong>] with four<\/strong> hitting number one<\/strong> on the charts.<\/p>\n Dan Seals’ older brother<\/strong>, Jimmy Seals<\/strong> was half of the extremely popular recording duo Seals and Crofts<\/strong>.\u00a0 Not wanting to cash in on his brother’s name, Dan<\/strong> went with his nickname, “England Dan” <\/strong>which was given to him as a child because of his love for The Beatles<\/strong>.\u00a0 In 1980<\/strong>, England Dan and John Ford Coley<\/strong> broke up, and Dan<\/strong> went on to have a successful career as a country singer.<\/p>\n
