My nephew, Josh Gonzaga<\/strong>, plays college baseball for the East Tennessee Buccaners<\/strong>.\u00a0 Today they had a doubleheader against North Florida<\/strong> in Jacksonville<\/strong>.\u00a0 Since Josh<\/strong> was starting pitcher in the second game, the family decided to drive up.\u00a0 When I say family, I mean family.\u00a0 In attendance were Josh’s mom<\/strong>, dad<\/strong> and brother Justin<\/strong>, my nephew Joey<\/strong> and his wife<\/strong>, my wife<\/strong>, my son Mike<\/strong> and his girlfriend Erin<\/strong>, and Grandma Peggy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Now the one thing you have to know about Grandma Peggy <\/strong>is that she has little interest in sports and knows even less about them.\u00a0 You could tell her that the pitcher just threw for three touchdowns and she’d not question it.\u00a0 You could say that the batter just earned a TKO and she’d believe you.\u00a0 Grandma Peggy <\/strong>was just there because Josh<\/strong> was playing and she loves being with her family.<\/p>\n

As the game got underway there were the normal cheers<\/strong>.\u00a0 “Go Bucs!”\u00a0 “Give him your best pitch!”\u00a0 “Great pitch, Josh!”\u00a0 “Battle back, kid!”\u00a0 “Come on blue, get in the game!”\u00a0 There were also a few new <\/strong>[at least to me] cheers<\/strong>: “Hey Blue, I thought only cows slept standing up!”\u00a0 “Hey Blue, don’t be chicken to call a foul (fowl)!” As the game tightened up and got down to the middle innings it seemed that everyone in the family was cheering something.\u00a0 And that’s when Grandma Peggy<\/strong> yelled:<\/p>\n

“That batter swings like a pole dancer!”<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Everyone in the family suddenly got quiet and all eyes went to Grandma Peggy<\/strong> who was proudly smiling.\u00a0 “Uh, mom, what does that mean?” I asked.\u00a0 “I don’t know, I just thought it sounded right” came her response.\u00a0 We all busted out laughing.\u00a0 For the rest of the game, every so often, you’d hear someone yell, “That batter swings like a pole dancer!”<\/p>\n
