{"id":31114,"date":"2022-11-26T12:36:39","date_gmt":"2022-11-26T17:36:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=31114"},"modified":"2022-11-26T12:36:39","modified_gmt":"2022-11-26T17:36:39","slug":"rip-irene-cara","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=31114","title":{"rendered":"RIP: Irene Cara"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/2022\/z112622rip_irene_cara.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"419\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Irene Cara passed away yesterday at the age of 63.\u00a0 No cause of death was given.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Irene Cara was an actress, singer and song writer.\u00a0 Although her performance in <em>Fame<\/em> made her a household name, Ms. Cara had been a performer since she was a little girl.\u00a0 When she was three years old she was one of five finalists for the <em>&#8220;Little Miss America&#8221;<\/em> pageant.\u00a0 She studied music and dance.\u00a0 While still a child she performed on <em>The Original Amateur Hour<\/em>, <em>The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson<\/em> and became a regular on PBS&#8217; <em>The Electric Company<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Irene Cara would go on to appear on stage in Broadway productions (and some off-Broadway plays as well).\u00a0 She became a regular cast member of <em>Love of Life<\/em>.\u00a0 This was followed by starring roles in the feature films\u00a0 <em>Aaron Loves Angela<\/em> and <em>Sparkle<\/em>.\u00a0 Television called and Irene Cara made guest appearances on <em>Kojak<\/em> and <em>What&#8217;s Happening!!.<\/em>\u00a0 Next came roles in<em> Roots: The Next Generation<\/em> and<em> Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Irene Cara became an international superstar with her role in <em>Fame<\/em>.\u00a0 Ms. Cara was originally cast as a dancer, but her role was re-written once producers heard her voice.\u00a0 Irene Cara sang the title song, <em>Fame<\/em> as well as the movie&#8217;s other single, <em>Out Here on My Own<\/em>.\u00a0 In addition to the singles and soundtrack selling in the millions, both songs were nominated for an Academy Award.\u00a0 Irene Cara became one of the few singers to perform more than one song at an <em>Oscar<\/em> ceremony.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Based on her performance in <em>Fame<\/em>, Iren Cara received <em>Grammy Award<\/em> nominations for <em>Best New Artist<\/em> and <em>Best Female Pop Vocal Performance<\/em>.\u00a0 She also received a <em>Golden Globe<\/em> nomination for <em>Best Motion Picture Actress in a Musical<\/em>. She was crowned <em>Billboard&#8217;s Top New Single Artist<\/em>, <em>Cashbox Magazine&#8217;s Most Promising Female Vocalist<\/em> and <em>Top Female Vocalist<\/em>.\u00a0 When a<em> Fame<\/em> television show was announced, Irene Cara was offered the opportunity to reprise her role, but declined.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 1983, she co-wrote (with Giorgio Moroder and Keith Forsey) and sang the title song for the movie <em>Flashdance<\/em>.\u00a0 <em>&#8220;Flashdance&#8230; What a Feeling&#8221;<\/em> would go on to become another multi-million seller as well as winner of\u00a0 the <em>Academy Award<\/em> for Best Song.\u00a0 For her performance Irene Cara won the 1984 <em>Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance<\/em>, the 1984 <em>Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song<\/em>, and <em>American Music Awards<\/em> for <em>Best R&amp;B Female Artist<\/em> and <em>Best Pop Single of the Year<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Irene Cara would continue singing and acting for the rest of her career.<\/p>\n<p>Our thoughts and prayers go out to Iren Cara&#8217;s family, friends and fans.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Irene Cara passed away yesterday at the age of 63.\u00a0 No cause of death was given.
