The Plot\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dr. Rose Cotter (Bacon) is a dedicated. overworked hospital psychiatrist.\u00a0 When Cotter gets an emergency call, she finds Laura Weaver (Stasey) hysterical.\u00a0 Weaver believes she is being followed by an entity that will murder her.\u00a0 Earlier in the week Laura saw her college professor kill himself. Laura says she is next to die.\u00a0 Dr. Cotter listens as Laura says that the entity takes the form of smiling people.\u00a0 Suddenly Laura begins to have a seizure.\u00a0 As Dr. Cotter calls for medical assistance, Laura breaks a planter, grabs a shard of glass and with a smile on her face, slits her own throat!<\/p>\n

After witnessing Laura’s suicide, Dr. Cotter begins to have hallucinations. She sees smiling people.\u00a0 When Cotter confides to her boss, he says she is suffering from overwork and trauma of seeing a patient kill herself.<\/p>\n

Dr. Cotter follows up on the professor Laura saw kill himself.\u00a0 She learns the professor witnessed a suicide, and the person who committed suicide witnessed a suicide!\u00a0 Dr. Cotter follows the chain and realizes she’s been cursed.\u00a0 All of the people in the chain committed suicide within a week… except one.\u00a0 Dr. Cotter has just days to learn why one person survived the curse…<\/p>\n

Thoughts (beware of spoilers)\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

Smile\u00a0<\/em>was written and directed by Parker Finn who expanded his award-winning short film, Laura Hasn’t Slept<\/em> to feature length.\u00a0 Paramount budgeted $17 million for Smile<\/em> and planned on a streaming release.\u00a0 When test screenings returned extremely favorable results, it was decided that Smile<\/em> would get a theatrical release before streaming.\u00a0 Smile<\/em> went on to gross over $200 million and counting.<\/p>\n

I love Smile<\/em>‘s tagline: Once you see it, it’s too late<\/em>.\u00a0 It perfectly summarizes the dread that builds as Rose Cotter realizes she’s been cursed.\u00a0 No one believes her.\u00a0 Instead of support, her friends and family think she’s losing her mind.\u00a0 Smile<\/em> is well cast, well written and well directed.\u00a0 Parker Finn combines psychological horror with a supernatural aspect and comes out a winner.<\/p>\n

Smile <\/strong><\/em>earns 4 of 5 stars.<\/span><\/p>\n
