Another dip into the ZONE<\/strong> vault finds this ultra-rare pencil sketch<\/strong> that Frank Miller <\/strong>did for me back in the early 80’s<\/strong>.\u00a0 Meeting Frank<\/strong> was cool and because, at the time, not as many people wanted sketches, and Miller<\/strong> wasn’t as well known then. \u00a0 I was able to sit and talk with him as he sketched it out.<\/p>\n

I told him I wanted something iconic with Daredevil<\/strong> and Bullseye<\/strong>.\u00a0 Frank<\/strong> thought for a second and then asked, “Do you care who’s winning?”\u00a0 “Not at all,” I replied.\u00a0 Frank<\/strong> then proceeded to draw the piece above.<\/p>\n

A year or so later I saw that Klaus Janson<\/strong> was going to be at a show within driving distance.\u00a0 I made it a point to also be at the show.\u00a0 I spoke to Klaus<\/strong> about inking the Miller <\/strong>sketch.\u00a0 He agreed, but wanted to wait until he had returned home to ink it.\u00a0 He was in Florida<\/strong> for the con and staying with his buddy, fellow inker, Bob McLeod<\/strong>.\u00a0 About a week went by and then I received a call from Klaus<\/strong>.\u00a0 He couldn’t find the sketch.\u00a0 He profusely apologized and offered to pay for the art or replace it.\u00a0 I could tell that he was truly upset.\u00a0 I told him, that perhaps the art would turn up and not to worry about it.<\/p>\n

Flash forward a bunch of years later.\u00a0 I had long since gotten out of collecting original art <\/strong>[and had yet to start on my Stallone<\/strong> art theme].\u00a0 I got a call from my buddy, John Beatty<\/strong>.\u00a0 John<\/strong> had gotten a call from Bob McLeod<\/strong>.\u00a0 Bob<\/strong> had been preparing to move, or doing some major spring cleaning or something… and guess what he found.\u00a0 Yep.\u00a0 My Frank Miller<\/strong> sketch.\u00a0 Bob<\/strong> was sending it back to me by way of Beatty<\/strong>.\u00a0 Since I was no longer collecting original art I decided to sell the piece and buy a laser disc player.\u00a0 Truth be told, I think I’ve gotten more enjoyment out of this xerox of the Miller<\/strong> sketch than I did out of the laser disc player!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
