Half-Wits Holiday <\/strong><\/em>(1947)<\/p>\n Director:\u00a0 Jules White<\/strong><\/p>\n Screenplay: Zion Myers Stars: Moe Howard, Larry Fine, Curly Howard<\/strong>, Vernon Dent, Barbara Slater, Theodore Lorch, Symona Boniface, Emil Sitka\u00a0<\/strong>and Al Thompson<\/strong> Tagline: None.<\/p>\n The Plot\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n Half-Wits Holiday<\/em> is a reboot of the Stooges’ 1935 short Hoi Polloi<\/em> (which was an adaptation of George Bernard Shaw’s 1913 play Pygmalion<\/em>).\u00a0 The Stooges’ would rework the same plot again in their 1958 short Pies and Guys<\/em>.\u00a0 Two college professors make a bet: one believes he can turn anybody into a gentleman.\u00a0 The other professor chooses three bumbling repair men (Larry, Curly and Moe) as the test subjects.\u00a0 What could go wrong?<\/p>\n Thoughts (beware of spoilers)\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n Half-Wits Holiday<\/em> features Curly’s last outing as one of The Three Stooges.\u00a0 For the previous two years Curly had suffered a series of small strokes. They were taking a toll.\u00a0 Curly’s endurance was down. His timing was off.\u00a0 During the final day of filming a giant pie fight was scheduled..\u00a0 Curly was to play a major part in the mayhem.\u00a0 As the scene was being prepared, Curly suffered a major stroke and was rushed to the hospital.\u00a0 The scene had to be shot without him.<\/p>\n
