{"id":31795,"date":"2023-02-09T12:11:52","date_gmt":"2023-02-09T17:11:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=31795"},"modified":"2023-02-09T19:57:34","modified_gmt":"2023-02-10T00:57:34","slug":"rip-burt-bacharach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=31795","title":{"rendered":"RIP: Burt Bacharach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/2023\/z020923rip_burt_bacharach.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"361\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Burt Bacharach died yesterday from natural causes.\u00a0 Mr. Bacharach was 94.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Burt Bacharach earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Montreal&#8217;s McGill University.\u00a0\u00a0He also studied music at the Mannes School of Music, and at the Music Academy of the West in Montecito, California.\u00a0 Mr. Bacharach was drafted and served two years in the US Army.\u00a0 This is where he met singer Vic Damone, who was also a soldier.\u00a0 After they were discharged, Mr. Bacharach worked as a pianist and conductor for Mr. Damone and later other singers such as Steve Lawrence, The Ames Brothers, Joel Gray and Marlene Dietrich.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 1957, Burt Bacharach met Hal David.\u00a0 Mr. David was a lyricist and they began writing songs together.\u00a0 The had back to back hits with<em> The Story of My Life<\/em> (performed by Marty Robbins) and <em>Magic Moments<\/em> (performed by Perry Como).\u00a0 Although Burt Bacharach wrote hits with other lyricists, he is best known for his collaborations with Hal David.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 1961, Burt Bacharach was impressed with the talents of a session singer.\u00a0 Her name was Dionne Warwick.\u00a0 They teamed and over the next twenty years produced 22 Top 40 hits including\u00a0 <em>&#8220;Walk On By&#8221;, &#8220;Alfie&#8221;, &#8220;I Say a Little Prayer&#8221;, &#8220;I&#8217;ll Never Fall in Love Again&#8221;,<\/em> and <em>&#8220;Do You Know the Way to San Jose?&#8221;.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Burt Bacharach would go on to work with or have his songs performed by\u00a0 Stan Getz, Dusty Springfield,\u00a0 Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, B.J. Thomas, The Carpenters, Barbra Streisand, Tom Jones, Stephanie Mills, Carole Bayer Sager (his third wife), Neil Diamond, Aretha Franklin, Natalie Cole, Luther Vandross, Ronnie Milsap, Elvis Costello, Ronald Isley, Adel to name just a few.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mr. Bacharach&#8217;s music would regularly be featured in films.\u00a0 He was nominated for 5 <em>Academy Awards<\/em> for <em>Best Music, Original Song<\/em> (winning two <em>Oscars<\/em> &#8211; for <em>&#8220;Raindrops Keep Fallin&#8217; on My Head&#8221;<\/em> with Hal David; and <em>&#8220;Arthur&#8217;s Theme (Best That You Can Do)&#8221;<\/em> with Carole Bayer Sager, Christopher Cross, Peter Allen).\u00a0 He also won an <em>Oscar<\/em> for <em>Best Music, Original Score for a Motion Picture (not a Musical)<\/em> for <em>Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Other films that featured Burt Bacharach compositions include: <em>The Blob<\/em> (1958); <em>What&#8217;s New Pussycat; Casino Royale<\/em> (1967); <em>Night Shift; Bob &amp; Carol &amp; Ted &amp; Alice; Arthur 2: On the Rocks; Goodfellas; Madonna: Truth or Dare; Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story; Forrest Gump; Bad Boys; Dead Presidents; Fargo;\u00a0 Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery; My Best Friend&#8217;s Wedding; I Know What You Did Last Summer; Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me; Shaft<\/em> (2000); <em>Meet the Parents; Austin Powers in Goldmember; Dawn of the Dead<\/em> (2004) and so many more.<\/p>\n<p>Our thoughts and prayers go out to Burt Bacharch&#8217;s family, friends and fans.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Burt Bacharach died yesterday from natural causes.\u00a0 Mr. Bacharach was 94.
